I've got a wireless N (Billion 7200N) router and wireless N laptop (2). It certainly works, but it's not flawless. If you can go wired, it's worth it IMO. (We had a simple ethernet cable installed from the study to the lounge in our house - then a switch in the TV cabinet for the PS3 / Boxee / TV / Squeezebox all to get network from).

Fast forwarding on hi-def video via wireless is no fun.

With that said, the Squeezebox Boom is running wirelessly, and it's all good.

- purely anecdotal experience, I'm no expert, but have tinkered a bit!

Hardly the cheapest or easiest solution really. Look through most peoples movie libraries and they're .avi or .mkv, would be a pain in the arse having to import movies into iTunes every time as well.

I'd recommend Plex personally. I've got a server running on my PC with the android app on my tablet, streams over wireless with no stuttering and the way it organises all your files is second to none in my opinion. Also have it streaming to an XBOX 360 and will be buying a Mele A1000 shortly for the PC in my bedroom.
