Default need to update USB serial bus controller drivers.

OK this is going to sound noob as fuck, but What do I need to update this? I downloaded the "latest" chipset drivers and installed them (2009 ones) but when I checked device manager, im still using 06 drivers (guessing its generic Win7 drivers)

Reason im trying to update them, is because since the day I built this PC, USB support has been shit. I can copy off USB drivers perfectly fine but when I try to copy things onto them, it crawls and then drops the device then I have to unplug it, plug it back in and the cycle continues

The motherboard I am using is a GA-MA790GP-UD4H.

There may also be the possibility that your USB ports are dying. I have a relatively good motherboard (in my sig) and all my drivers are up to date (try your mass storage drivers from gigabyte if there is that option)
One of my ports drops out occasionally on write, but only with USB3 devices.
Not sure I'm helping at all, but is it only one port or most of them?

could be an issue with lack of power. Assuming this is a pc, have you tried the ports on the back? Have you plugged your specs into a PSU calculator?

Are you using the Gigabyte supplied drivers?
Try getting a fresh load from AMD.

Yeah I have tried all the other ports and it also does it with my powered card reader. The only drives it doesn't have issues with is one of my old 2.5" drive that doesn't require power so I don't think its a power issue.

I have tried updating drivers but after they have installed, I check device manager and the same old ones are there.

I am also running on dual boot and when in Windows XP I have no issue with the USB ports at all.

What version BIOS are you using, there are several updates available for this board, http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...?pid=3003#bios

In addition what version Windows are you using 32 or 64bit?, in my experience using 32bit drivers on 64bit can cause a dramatic decrease in performance.

In addition your board uses the AMD SB750, this was designed and implemented to specifically address issues with slow usb of the 600 series, if your using a driver dated 2006 it's a good bet your actually using the wrong chipset driver (older 600 series), I would download the drivers from Gigabyte http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3003#dl, go into device manager, choose update driver and select the downloaded files, reboot and see if that makes a difference.
