Default Steve Parish has $200K of camera equipment stolen

Thieves target acclaimed wildlife photographer

Quote:
One of Australia's best-known wildlife photographers has had most of his photographic equipment stolen from a car.

Steve Parish was staying with his nephew at suburban Norwood in Adelaide and found his car windows smashed when he woke this morning.

About $200,000 of equipment was gone and Mr Parish admitted it was uninsured.

...
This is bad. It's shocking that it's not insured, though - it's definitely not deserved, but this is why you get insurance.

I wonder what it was to be worth $200K, though? And a small enough amount of gear that it was in his car?

That figure sounds a bit unrealistic and to think his car doesn't have contents insurance is even more absurb.

Just doesn't add up...

I really feel for the guy, but why leave it in the car overnight? Seems crazy!

I second that, guy is really playing with fire doing something like that.

I am guessing from the statement, "They don't really have any market value.." that the $200K is just something that he came up with as some of the lenses are priceless.
On the plus side, they sound like they are rare and hopefully should be easily found if someone tries to sell them.

No gear insurance... leave in a car overnight... stolen... no sympathy!

Let that be a lesson.

Although given how super special and not manufactured anymore those lenses are, shouldn't be too hard to catch the guy when he tries to flog them.

Agreed. Sounds like someone hoping for donations to get his life back in order..?

Difficult for it to be an insurance scam when Steve Parish admits the equipment wasn't insured.

20 x Fuji GX617 = $200,000.

How do you get a payout if the equipment was not insured?

Or in the event you were that cash flow poor you couldn't afford the premiums and let your insurance lapse, wouldn't you take the equipment inside, sleep next to it with one eye open and an arm around it all?

Ugg this is why I always take my gear inside no matter how close my car is parked to me.

Hate it when people have the "Oh it's not like someone will steal from the car we're sitting near it" attitude.

Most insurers offer month by month payment. I imagine his premium would be quite high. Mine's fairly hefty and I have less than 25% of his gear....
