I am putting my pics onto my ipad to play with through iPhoto and i then want to pull them off with all details, filenames, exif etc intact.
does anyone know how to do this, i can "share" it with iTunes but it pulls them off in shitty quality.

How are you putting them on the iPad? If it's through iTunes and syncing, you will need to use an app such as Simple Transfer. Another option is to install dropbox and 'sync' it with your PC.

Your iPad will appear as a camera, just do it that way?

you cannot see images that are imported thru itunes in that way.
if they're imported via the camera connection kit then yes
