I have Canon 1000D and external flash Canon Speedlite 430EX II Since recently they just stopped working together. The flash doesn't synchronise with camera's settings. There's no warranty any more so it might be expensive to bring it to the workshop. Any ideas how to fix it on my own?

What exactly do you mean by it doesn't synchronise with the camera's settings? What behaviour are you seeing?

I had a similar problem the other night, the 580EX was slightly off the camera hotshoe. Was firing in manual mode without the ETTL pins.

try cleaning the hotshoe and flash contacts. They're probably dirty causing a bad connection
