Default X58 Mismatched RAM question

Quick question guys,

Is there any reason why I shouldn't use a 3x2GB kit and a 3x4GB kit for a total of 18GB?

Will it affect the triple channel speeds?

I don't think it will have an adverse effect, if any at all afaik.

Are they the same brand and series?

Would like to know this as well. I've got 2 different batches of the same model Patriot Gamer 2 DDR3-1600 from MSY at home (4x4=16gb total), one is green PCB and the other is black.

Hoping I'll still be able to use 3 of them for 12gb without a hitch.

You can use them, its just that the settings might have trouble, you might have to slow down your faster ram for it to work with the slower ram.

The ram will run at the speed of the slowest stick as long as they are all single sided or all double sided is pretty much the only issue and that's only a sometimes issue... Matched sticks of Ram is marketing witch doctory to make the buyer feel good ... ok ok at the start it mattered sometimes if they were not matched but those days are pretty much gone
