noticed this fish yesterday was discoloured and acting sick. sure enough when he turned around i saw his eye has got some sort of infection. it has puffed up and has blood around the area.
trying to get some advice to try and save him. i know it sounds extreme but would it be able to be cut out and the fish survive if not cureable? any ideas?? thanks

The title makes it sound like it's the fishes fault.
Looks like pop eye. Sometimes caused by physical damage to the area, but usually the result of an internal infection as a result of poor water quality and/or stress. Quarantine if possible. Epsom salts and a broad spectrum antibiotic (pending tankmates). Try and alleviate as much stress as possible - not using lights will help.

haha well it is the fishes fault if its an injury, thers 2 of them and all they do is fight each other.
cheers for the replies, ive had the temp up at about 30 before when dealing with white spot or anchor worm cant remember, so will do that again. delt with them with cupramine it worked a treat. other fish in tank- forgive my noobness : 2 whiptails another bolivian 1 salmon 2 clownfish 1 angel 2 silver sharks 2 bristlenose suckers 1 tetra - the lone survivor i think the bristlenose limit what medicine you can put in the tank. are there any fish in the tank that will suffer from what you guys have recommended? |

Red Rainbowfish, more than likely Glossolepis incisus, aka Salmon Red Rainbowfish. Shouldn't be negatively affected by the meds.
Clown Loaches are what you need to worry about, as they don't have scales. How big is this tank? Might want to start looking at getting rid of the Silver Sharks (and it's possible they're related to this eye issue).
