I did say just above - same issues on a Asrock board (overclocked).

My ASRock does that when I overclock the RAM too much, the RAM fails and then it has to reboot back on failsafe settings.

its either a boot failure, then boot recover, then successful boot (at OC settings - who knows why), or if at stock, its an initial "testing its all OK boot", of sorts.

well thats what i call them.

example;
on my old dfi x48 mobo, if disconnected from mains power, its first boot is ALWAYS like that. just does a quick "is everything ok?" boot, then off, then on - and all is well.
if left in mains it will never do that, just if unplugged from the wall (or theres a power outage in household).

caused a few freakouts over the years, expecially when at LANs. you'd turn it on, itd start, then turn off. "oh shit wtf...." then it comes back on.. "oh right, it does that when unplugged lols".

however i dont think my current asus board does this, but occasionally my gigabyte boards do. i dont think its actually an issue as long as it does eventually come on, and the bios settings arent lost

Isn't this what POST (Power On Self Test?) is?

I had this problem on a Gigabyte board. To fix it, I loosened all the screws that hold the motherboard down. Problem solved; for me.

My Asus P8Z68-V Pro board does this as well. Never did it when it I first got it. Overclocked the CPU and RAM and it was fine. Then a new BIOS update in, I think, Februrary or around that time started causing it to boot twice - especially in the morning. It would boot and have no video output and/or disk activity then shutdown for 1 or 2 seconds before booting up fine.

No idea what is causing it but I assume that it's not causing any problems as it's been running fine for the last 5 months and hence can't be stuffed finding out the problem.

Sorry, I meant, all Gigabyte board + others

Seems to be something with the newer chipsets. So this only happens on OC'ed settings for you guys?

My Gigabyte z77 use to do it, but a bios update fixed it

I now moved onto an ASRock extreme 4.

My old board used to do this when external USB drives were attached, turned of USB legacy support in BIOS and stopped doing it, all still worked fine.
