Default Medieval Battles

Went up into the Tamborine mountains a few weeks back to check out some Viking vs Eastern Mercenary combat re-enactments... yep you read that right. These guys are dedicated to their craft to say the least, and they put on a really good show. The armour and weaponry are totally legit. I'm stoked I took the camera along.

These are some of the better shots I grabbed. I wanted more of dark and gritty cinematic look as opposed to just documenting the event. Framed them up nice and close, pushed the contrast a bit in post and converted to black and white. enjoy.

I too like the look and feel of the images.

My only critic would be more beard (out of your control however)

Yeah, I agree, you've done well with the gritty look, and keeping them dark works really well. I love the way the 2nd one is composed, but the 1st is my fav, it just oozes atmosphere - I could almost believe he's about to fight for his life!

Love the photos, despite being slightly thrown by the "beard effect" It seems silly, but I really noticed it in every shot. Despite (or perhaps because of) that, my favourite is number 3. The clean-shaven young guy in the middle looks like he is lining up for his first ever battle, I love it! Almost looks like a frame from an old movie.

Totally agree with this. Very strong, heavy, gritty feel. Really makes me feel like I was there. Love the framing, intelligently tight.

Brilliant mate, well done.
Not that it matters but just out of curiosity, what camera/lens were you using?

Cheers,
60D with a 50-500mm. Averaging around the 300 to 400mm range so I could shoot from a distance and avoid an arrow to the knee.
