Default RC Multicopter Discussion Thread

looking at the RC forum im seeing that planes, cars, heli's quads, boats ect are on here.
Im fairly new to the world of RC flight but just bought my first quadcopter.

I have the DJI Naza F450 + Gps
Turnigy 9x controller and just upgraded to the spektrum dx8
Fpv sender and gopro 960 for fpv but no receiver yet

I suppose for those interested in getting into quads i would start a new discussion thread.
Im currently looking into fatshark fpv and a better gopro gimbal

nice

i'm putting together my first quad at the moment based of a DJI F450 frame. Frame is a bit of a test run before a full FPV build.

Got an assortment of bits on the way, end goal is FPV with decent range. Got a cheapy 2.4ghz tx/rx for now, still trying to figure out what LRS to go with and what vtx freq to use

You could probably build a basic one for about $400
I so far have spent about $1200 but that's including a new spectrum dx8 remote ($500)and upgrading to the f550 dji frame which is now 6 motors

Look up dji F450 arf
The kit is close to complete, you need charger battery and transmitter from knowledge. I prefer to do custom

Heli or multi?
Mine has a lift capacity of 5.4kg but that's full throttle and includes frame.
In reality frMe weighs about 1.9kg leaving me about 1kg to play with and still have a very zippy copter.
The GoPro is only like 120grams

Check out hobbyking

I was bitten by the FPV and multirotor bug last year. First built a RCExplorer style tricopter and then a DIY Quad frame. Wrote the quad off and now have the running gear in a cheap hobbyking Q450 frame. And I also picked up a little micro quad as well to fly around the house

I love the things! A lot less setup than heli's and quick and easy to throw in the car to take for a quick spin. If they eat dirt it's usually just a matter of a couple zip ties before it's back in the air.

My first quad frame:

Current Quad frame:

A bad photo of my tricopter:

A gopro photo from the tricopter:

I find the tricopter a lot smoother to fly and better for video, the q450 is way faster and set up twitchier for FPV bashing.

I'm eyeing off the open LRS at hobbyking at the moment to extend range as well. THESE ONES They can be improved with a reflash and so one acts as a transmitter, the other receiver. Supposedly good for about 7km at a decent height. I'm only interested in taking a plane maybe 3km at the most -too far to fetch it if things go wrong otherwise

I've got two of these things I need to finish. One just needs a battery and receiver, the other just needs a battery and the motors.
They are both built from the Hobby King catalogue.

(Samsung SGS3 for scale)

I might put the wooden frame one up for sale and use it to fund the other.

looking good man.
im building 2 more at the moment.
2x F550, one for a mate and one for me.

Ive been flying mine manual lately and getting the hang of it, i can fly attitude almost facing me and can fly manual easy enough., ive also reduced my weight by 200grams so its now 1.5kg instead of 1.7 and a theoretical lift capacity of 3.4kg

ive also added LED's controlled by one of the channels on my receiver so i can fly at night now (it looks like the millennium falcon)

My final setup should be

F550 with 6x 890kv motors and gaupner eprop 10" and maybe 11 or 12"
Naza Control
Spektrum DX8 + Telemetry
gopro mount (custom) no gimbal
gopro video out for FPV
Av sender with cloverleaf 5.8ghz and OSD
Fatshark receiver with upgraded antenna
extended landing gear (yet to decide on a heli landing gear or extended feet)

Hey, can you direct me to a site where it gives you the basics to build one? I like the look of the DJI Naza F450 and perhaps later the GPS unit and a camera. I'm guessing that buying locally from a shop is not worth it.

Order the QAV500 frame and some parts yesterday, the rest will be obtained when stock levels return.

Going to build it over the next few months as time permits.
