As introduced by lead system architect Mark Cerny, the PS4 is based on a "supercharged PC architecture," with an X86 processor, enhanced PC-style GPU, and 8GB of GDDR5 unified high-speed memory. The controller is called, unsurprisingly, the DualShock 4, and features the Vita-style touchpad we'd heard about, and a light bar on the back to identify players. Each PS4 will contain a 3D camera to track the various controllers using the bar. The PS4 contains 8 CPU cores, providing almost 2 teraflops of computational performance. The power allows for 30,000 polygons to be rendered in real time (by way of comparison, Heavy Rain on the PS3 utilized 15,000). "Overall, our goal has been to architect the system to support a breadth of experiences," said Cerny.

8GB RAM bitches!

8GB of RAM should allow for an incredible amount of future proofing, most PC games now wouldn't even consume that much.

I just bloody hope devs don't sacrifice full 1080p for the sake of pushing the limits... Running at 720p is lame.

Hopefully it's not all PR, and they actually have something easy to work on for developers.

Anyone want to bet the final reveal for the physical console will be the size of a desktop computer.

Not necessarily. Probably similar to a 1st Gen PS3 in size terms.

Wish they'd show the damn console instead of going on about sharing.

Good luck with your download caps if this downloads games in the background without you even asking it to.

Sharing and asking your mates to play is cool, but there was a point where they said "sharing used to mean you had a friend with you on the couch" now apparently nobody socialises rofl

Edit: oh and if they make "the last of us" ps4 exclusive.. hell to pay.

'Emotional state of play'? sounds like they've been listening to too many qualcom keynotes

A part of me is happy they changed the controller (to hopefully something more comfortable), the other part is sad to see the design go
