Default Rear projection screen TV's

Visted my brother and watched a couple of DVD's on his new setup, and was dissapointed with his rear projection TV's quality.

The convergence of
red & blue was not even across the screen, and there were obvious parts were the colours were not right because of this. the TV has a facility to modify convergence at heaps of areas on the screen, but they all looked good in the test patterns. It was as if certain areas of the DVD frame were always drawn incorrectly.

Very distracting

Anyone else have experience with these suckers and getting them looking really good?

TV is a 55 inch / 140cm Phillips widescreen.
