Get the firmware from here: http://forum.firmware-flash.com/ the 2 x 4 all and 12 x rip.
The only thing about flashing to a hacked firmware is that it voids your warranty, and take note that you can flash it back to the original firmware to regain the warranty . Just make sure you type in CAPITALS (/F) otherwise it will not work.

xtturbo,
I got my media from two sources so far. 1)gizmo_melb sold me some Princo, this suff is good. Always works at 4X and burns in around 14:30sec. I've only used a couple of discs so far but I've had no coasters. 2)Xtreem Technology Centre sold me some Ritek. These discs are very nice always burn at 4X in around 14:30sec. Unfortunately this company never seems to have any stock and the prices on their web site are way more than if you ring them up. I've also had a look down at the swap meet. One of the traders told me that he was getting some Ritek this week, price should be about $3 a disc. Probably less for 50 or 100. Apart from that the rest of the traders are only selling Princo discs. The going rate seems to be $120 for 50 4X discs. Good price but Princo discs can be very dodgy, their great if you get a good batch and Dog s**t if you get a bad batch. The general rule is, if someone sells you a good batch, keep buying from them (in my case gizmo_melb). I hope I've been of some help. Regards, Adz2000 |

Heya,
yup.. only have about 50 4X left at the moment though. Just I'd love to know where these 4X Princos are at the swapmeets.. since $2.50 each for DVD-R 4X is below the buying cost (in bulk) from the manufacturer! I'd be checking if they are Princo or rebadged even cheaper media, as well as if they are a genuine 4X or not. Unfortunatley there is almost nothing to visually distinguish between the different speed rated media - the 4X media I've seen have a very small blue 'border' area on the outside edge of the DVD, whereas the 1X and 2X media seems to have about a 1mm blue 'border' on the outside edge. Just be careful that it's not someone selling 1X or 2X media as 4X. And no, this is not because I sell media.. I'm not a shop - I work for a computer wholesaler and pass on less than shop wholesale prices when I'm able to. I can't supply in shop quantities. |

This was at the Malvern town hall swappy just on the weekend that just passsed, it was from the stall at the entrance.. $25 for a packet of 10 genuine PRINCO 1-4x media. I have been using them at 4x, not a hitch.

I also saw very cheap DVD-R at the Malvern Swap meet.
The best price I got was $120 for 50 4X Princo. This works out to be $2.40 per disc. I didn't buy any though. As I said in and earlier post, you need to very careful buying Princo as the quality can be questionable. Personally I’d rather pay a little more and buy from someone I can trust (gizmo_melb). One guy at the Swap Meet told me he was getting in Ritek 4X this week at, $3 a pop. If I see this at the next swap meet I'll be buying some for sure. I find the Ritek to be about the best media you can buy. I just wish some of the Vendors who advertise of this web site realised this started to stock some. It cracks me up that they will stock rubbish like Laser and then blame it on the AO5 when it doesn't burn right. Regards, Adz2000 |

Ive heard about it being around the $500 mark.... Also for those thinking of getting an a05, bare in mind the a06 will be out this month with dual format as well

over the 500a? basically 4x +RW....
higher CD-R/RW speeds but i didnt spend all that money on a drive when my trusty liteon 24102B burns cd's just fine, dvd is what counts. As for the A06, its a 4x +r/-r writer, RW speeds i believe are 2.4x/2x for +r/-r respectivelly
