As for the A06, its a 4x +r/-r writer, RW speeds i believe are 2.4x/2x for +r/-r respectivelly
yeah it is
plus, whats the point when A05s can be had at bargan prices?
-R seems to be the mainstream tech anyway, due to these low prices.

well my point was that the 510 seems to be in the same price range as the a05, retail packs ofcourse, the 105 can be found for 450 or less in some places as OEM only. But you get little firmware support for OEM drives.

I'd be checking if they are Princo or rebadged even cheaper media, as well as if they are a genuine 4X or not. Unfortunatley there is almost nothing to visually distinguish between the different speed rated media - the 4X media I've seen have a very small blue 'border' area on the outside edge of the DVD, whereas the 1X and 2X media seems to have about a 1mm blue 'border' on the outside edge. ...SNIP[]
Hiya,

There is a way to tell, and normally my DVDInfo would have been able to tell you but in this one instance (shintaro 4x) they used the same media id as a 1x which I did not expect and the program looked no futher when it found a known ID and Version

I have made some changes to V1.05 to overcome this and added another field. True 4x media have a different version field and Laser power calibration bits that are exclusive to 4x media. DVDInfo uses this info to determine true 4x media.

I will release V1.05 very soon which has these fixes.

cheers

great program! any idea on how to determine which manufacturers use which codes in the Media code/Mfr ID?

Pioneer 4X -> PVCR001002
Ritek 4X -> RITEKG04
Ritek 1X -> RITEKG03
unknown 2X -> MXLRG01 (maybe Maxell OEM?)

Now why didn't I think of that Bloody good idea, I know most of them. I would need to make a list of known ones similar to how the "media speed" rating is done by a growing known list.

I will go through the list and see if how many I can figure out. I will add this to my todo list.

I have already been doing that on many US forums. The current list has over 100 different media codes on it.

If ever the program states "unknown" beside the media speed setting then let me the know the complete media code and the speed.

Hmmm, can you dump the complete Advanced Command 0E and copy the clipboard and send it to me. I will compare it with my data. Maybe the version data I have is incorrect.

I will also then add the mediaid and version and speed into the next version of DVDInfo due out soon.

cheers

ok, also found that MXLRG01 is most likely Datasafe unbranded.

Yup, you were right I just found a V1.1 DVD-RW here and the routine was wrong. I have just corrected it in V1.05 which will be out soon.

To check yours, do an Advanced OE command and look in Hex, if the 10th byte is 20h its V1.0 and if its 21h then in V1.1

Thanks for that.

cheers

The clipboard button does both so it does not matter what the display is showing.

i just pickedup some Laser branded 2x dvd-r and they had that MXL code on 'em, burnt fine at 2x though on my DRU500a with 2.0f firmware. Played fine in both my players too.
