Default Oculus Rift CV1

This morning, Oculus Rift announced that they're going to start pre-orders Wed 06/01/2016 at 8am Pacific Time (or Thursday 3am 07/01/2016 AEDT).

https://www.oculus.com/en-us/blog/oc...open-on-jan-6/

URL for the Oculus Shop (Obviously not working yet)

https://shop.oculus.com/

That said, who's on the hype train. I've been loving my DK2 experience of late with the newish 0.8 drivers so I cannot wait for CV1 with the apparent removal of the screen door effect, 90hz refresh rate, inbuilt audio and 360 degree head tracking.

Hopefully it's not going to be too expensive, but, if it's anything like the DK2, expect it to be anywhere from $500-$1000..

So far the package includes an Xbox One controller, EVE: Valkyrie and Lucky Tale.

Word is that they have a heap of stock ready to go, with shipping from 2-4 weeks from pre-order date and anyone who misses out will still be able to get an OR, just with a later shipping date.

Then again, how's waiting for Valve/HTC's Vive HMD?

Edit: I'll also add some updates as they come to hand

Example of DK1 case

Edit 2:

List of countries that are going to ship the kickstarter OR edition:

Quote:
From the Kickstarter reward:
This offer is only available in the following countries where Oculus Rift is shipping: United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Edit 3:

HTC/Valve's "big breakthrough" for Vive is a new version of Chaperone that shows you rough outlines of objects(or people) in the real-world.

So in other words, Vive will have another camera so it can map where objects are in a room.

Also, it's looking highly unlikely that Elite Dangerous will have any CV1 support when it gets launched. Frontier has stated that they won't be doing any more re-coding until they get SDK 1.0, which could be a little while away. That said, at the moment, ED works in Steam VR mode because Steam VR still supports 'extended mode' which could be ditched at any moment. I think there's some very underhanded tactics going on with Frontier but guess we'll see if they do actually come to the party.

Yeah.. I can see your point, however, we've had DK1, DK2, Crescent Bay and the unreleased prototypes.

I think, if anything, what will really limit CV1 will be the lack of software. The SDK hasn't even reached version 1.00 yet, and a number of devs have said that they won't do anything until they get 1.00.. As it is, there were a lot of games that used 0.5/0.6 which are now completely broken, as 0.7/0.8 have disabled 'extended mode' which a lot of earlier games used, ie, Elite Dangerous, Assetto Corso..

But yes, you'd have to go into it knowing that screen technology will improve dramatically for HMD devices over the next few years, so CV1 will have a limited shelf life. But, that's always been the case with any new technology.

That said, I have no qualms whatsoever parting with my money. Flight & car sims totally change your perspective when in 3D & head tracking. You cannot go back to a 2D monitor.

at what point its this going to be plug and play, or is it basically already there? or is it basically going to be alot of designers have to write their games to support it, which probably wont happen for alot of older games?

in a nut shell.....basically when will my VR porno be ready?

I'm interested to know what the 'technological breakthrough' is that HTC have delayed the Vive for...
The way i see it, i'll go with which ever gets better reviews, and has more support. (though i'm thinking probably the Vive considering it has Valve (Steam) supporting it, you'd think it will have more games)

I was fully committed until vive. It just appears like the vive is better tech wise (ability to physically move round in a larger space, tracking appears like it should be more accurate/stable).

Who am I kidding, I'll probably buy it. ED and Assetto on oculus is just a whole new level.

If vive ends up having same or greater support and ends up being a more solid unit, I'll sell off the cv1.

I'm definitely interested, but am holding off for now. I'll follow it and see how things pan out though, may end up picking one up anway, but atm bills and responsibilities take precedence

Can I ask where you got that info from? This sounds like you get your Rift shipped 2-4 weeks after pre-ordering... meaning you get it late Jan/early Feb. That sounds just a little too good to be true - but I'd love if it were!
