Default der8auer Delid Die Mate cherry popped twice

First off let me say this is a very light review.
Only x1 goal, to tame my Devils Canyon 4790K temps. aka " Hot Bastard "

Test pilot before an expensive Haswell

Always said I'd never delid. After watching a video of this delid tool in action, decided to give it a crack. That's kind of what it sounds like when the IHS looses tension.
If the processor is warm more like a pop I think.

Vital statistics.

4790K running x46 @ 1.1875 bios. x43 uncore Auto. Igpu enabled. Power saving off.

Thermal Pastes etc

732 Black Silicon to re attach IHS
Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut
Gelid Exteme

Mission
Only using non conductive pastes. Stuff locally available.

Cherry popped again

After delid, cleaning is easy. Take care of surface mount electronics on x1 side. Used stanley knife section about 1cm. Removes bulk of silicon.
Then thinners softens it more. Using a cotton tip does the trick. Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol after.

Apply Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut. I then did light silicon edge on IHS.
The delid tool is useful for holding in place while silicon sets too.

Only about 10min. Remove, then clean up silicon while soft, pointy edge of the stanley blade section. Isopropyl Alcohol again.

Gelid Exteme on the IHS. Into your machine the processor goes.

Testing

All testing with LinX 0.64. Watercooling 540rad 1fan only maxed. Pump 1800rpm. < to simulate a smaller WC system only >
Ambient was 24 deg. Later after delid dropped 3 deg.
Some screenshot will show higher idle. Perhaps screenshot too early

Original configuration.

Before delid vs After delid

Success I'd say Up to x48 easily & temps are going well.
Thanks for looking. Go easy, first review too

So tonight been testing limits of the cooling. Ambient here was 23deg earlier & now 20deg.
So add 2-3 deg to later screenshots to be correct.

Mostly Auto in bios. Some additional + tweaks to help stability. Nothing is backed off though.
Same testing as the post above. Think x47 will be the sweet spot now.

These x2 last screenshots. Cooling is maxed. Pump & x3 fans flat out.

x49 Was not possible before. Ambient need to be 5deg or less.
Processor still was near on thermal limits on 1-2 cores

x50 is not easy to nail. Only been up this high a few times now.
Always thermals run away. Could never get this far.

HT off. Minor adjustments / still need more though.
Temps getting to 90+ is enough with HT on low LinX runs
Still completed a run. Yay * Notice last one was about to bug out! *

Nice one Shane. To avoid thinners, I just used an old videoezy card to scrape it off. No chance of damage that way.

Now, get some LET (liquid electrical tape) and cover those resistors and buy some Coolaboratory Liquid Utra. Really makes a big difference over the other pastes. There is others coming to the market too, like Phobya has a LM too, and Coolermaster has a new Mastergel Maker coming too which looks interesting (I'm giving this a go soon ).

Keep the results coming.

Thanks champ for advice Was doing some good LinX runs last night x49 cooling & all x3 fans maxed. Ambient about 17deg iirc, temps maxed about 80deg. Which is amazing for this processor.

The thinners was OK. Made sure to wipe path where the silicon was.
Infact it left the silicon in the valley areas of the pcb. Which I liked as it was a flatter surface. Still happy days with the result

LET (liquid electrical tape) Where can I get it?
Coolaboratory Liquid Utra Only seen a Russian variant on ebay?

Got mine here. It's only small, done 2 CPUs so far, goes a long way. Just don't have it near electrical resistors or aluminium (eats it away). Not that good for super cold though. Just under 0 you'd be fine, starts to granulate when lower than that.

LET I got a tin at my local Jaycar. Stinks bad, protects good and peels off later if needed.

Never tried. I generally think of it as permanent.
