Default [BRIS] Flip or Slide phone

Brother dropped his old Nokia slide phone and cracked the screen, and him having clocked up well over 60 solar rotations he refuses (utterly and categorically refuses) to go for anything except either a flip or another slider... sigh.

Aaaand ideally I need to lay my hands on something suitable by Thursday night before he pisses off back to Sydney (thank Christ...) - not critical but would be handy.

Anyone got some nice Olde School technology lurking in a bottom of a dusty drawer somewhere perchance?

Isn't all that technology 2G only?

I thought Telstra was ditching 2G at the end of the year?

I've got an old something-or-other, some chinese name Telstra phone, but I'm not local to you. It's got a flip cover thing on it. I've also got a motorola something, it's not a bad phone that one.

Telstra sell THIS ONE - and it has the blue-tick certification, so it must do at least 3G.

oh, I also have one like that - mine's an Alcatel. The Telstra might be a rebadged Alcatel? Alcatel do several "old-fashioned" very basic "just phones" and they are pretty cheap, if you want to get him a new phone instead of chasing dinosaurs.

Maybe only on the reeeeeal early ones, I've got dead Motorola 'n Nokia flippers laying around that were all 3G.

And we had a look at the T20 for him (I've actually got one here only a few months old), would sort him out quite nicely. So would a meat axe but I don't have enough land space to hide the body.

But all the T20s we touched yesterday are locked to Telstra regardless where you buy them from, prices ranged from $89 to $109 up here new buuuuut he won't change his service from Vodaaaaaaa aaaaaand Tel$tra quote $125 to unlock them aaaaaand it ain't worth >$200 for a T20 flipper aaaaand a couple of phone repair shops up here won't unlock it for coin themselves...

Sigh. And I thought I was the family Crotchety Old Fart - anyone want a new brother? One owner, reasonably well house-broken, all offers accepted...

Mine isn't locked. It is an Alcatel One Touch 668 and I got it at one of those "phone places" that have kiosks in the shopping centre. Can't think of the name. If you look for it by it's "real name" you might be able to find an unlocked one?

Myeh, the the T20s were the only flippers we could find and after hitting near a dozen places yesterday (Name Brand shops, Yum Cha kiosks 'n repair booths, even Coles/Woolies etc), figured for the continuing dicking about should (ha!) be able to get something nice and cheap out of someone's bottom drawer around here.

Win-Win - cheap phone and something kept out of the landfill mebbe...
