When returning seagate hard drives for RMA...always select the Syd Address..costs me 10-15 depending on what i send it in...and you always get back them cool boxers with the fome and what not...but packing from anyone i say
You do know you can check if you still have warranty through the seagate site...if you don't then it will not let you complete the RA
Maxtor hard drives can be RA'ed through the seagate website as well (not sure if anyone has pointed that out, but im not about to go looking through 22pages)

and on another note, on all standard seagate hard drives as of this year (2009) they wil be on a 3year warranty again

Samsung are really great with RA's...very little fuss...and 90% of the time depending how old and how big the hard drive is, they will send back a bigger one
sent away a 500gb come back as a 750gb..but when i sent a 750 it just come back the same size

My first time RMA'ing a hard drive today - not because I haven't had them fail, but when they do they just end up in a pile and left untouched... (I went thru that pile today, and disassembled one for fun - a Maxtor 4GB with manufacture date of 1996, but that's another story).

So I was pleasantly surprised my failed WD2500JS drive had a date of manufacture of April 2006; given WD's std 3 yr warranty, it was covered upto Apr 2009 at the least. So I did the online thing, requested RMA number, printed the receipt with the barcode they wanted for the outside of the box, dug up an ESD bag and some bubblewrap packaging, return address was in Singapore - Flextronics, which is familiar as I used to work for the Australian arm of the company they recently took over (also a contract manufaturer, dealing with warranty items - small world).

Cost of registered postage was a not insignificant ~$23.... realistic expectation: I'd get a refurbished drive of the same model (and they won't tell you it's a refurb) but reading this thread it seems the HD makers sometimes replace with current day (ie. larger capacity) drives.

Just did another Seagate last week, well 2 weeks ago now, painless as ever. Signup online, print shipping label, stick to shipping package, roll up drive in bubble wrap, send to Synex Sydney, they get it next day, next day new drive shipped from Singapore, get drive via courier day after.

Something must have gone wrong there? Did you send it to Sydney or their base in Singapore?

I never saw that?
Although, their printed label had my name and address in the top right (American return to sender style), but I thought it was more of a matter of them getting the drive, varifying the SN, logging it with their system, and that system tells Singapore to send me a new drive....

Edit: Had WD 500gb IDE start filling with bad sectors overnight (aka: uT started to error on me, so only detected overnight) so might have another drive to RMA... Don't think I've done a WD yet. Hopefully I can save the data.... its my pr0n drive

ah yeh i'll just print out that page with their adress/ram number and my address then. thanks.
also, i have a cardboard mailing box, and am planning to wrap the drive in an anti static bag and bubble wrap. you think that would be ok? in their terms and conditions they say the warranty may be void if improperly packaged (ie bubble wrap) but im sure ive heard of people using it before ?

Should be fine. Then return the drive to you in a 25x20x20cm box with the drive in the middle. I sent mine to them in a padded ~20x15cm mailing satchel, with the drive in a clamshell, and that wrapped in a foam I have. Was a snug fit, but very padded for the drive.

Guys,
will samsung RMA without a receipt? or is this a must have for them?
I can't find my recepit for them anywhere but the drive isn't even detecting.

I wouldn't bother mate.

The replacement Samsung drive is probably going to die in a couple of months time anyway.

Its a joke and it's happened to me too many times now.

Samsung will RMA with out a reciept. This week I did just that.
Had a faulty 400gb HD. Emailed them asking whats required. they sent me a form to fill out and Email back. Within 20 mins I had my RMA number. Couriered it up there on Tuesday. Received the replacement today.

So so easy..

Did my first HDD RMA!

Sent my seagate off to sydney (regular post) and got the replacement in about a week. Packaged using a Seashell + bubble wrap. The process was very easy to deal with - email notifications all the way and tracked the delivery of the replacement.

Somewhat disappointed the replacement was the same old model (7200.10 320GB) Working perfectly though.

I'm going to rma my faulty drive too. Just wonder if you put your drive in a proper package or just the bare drive. Are they open in the weekend? Thanks.
