You are supposed to send it to the address given on the website you got the RMA from. You are better off getting a new RMA from the Australian distributor of Seagate drives which is Ingram Micro. Ingram Micro will accept Seagate drives as that is the name I was given when I rang Seagate and asked where to send a warranty claim. Then let Ingram Micro do the rest. Ingram Micro send warranty claim Seagate drives in bulk to the Seagate drives testing centre. You can telephone Ingram Micro on: 1300653333 requesting an RMA Request Facsimile Form and they will email you the form and you can fill it out and fax it back. They will issue you with an RMA number and then do as I described in my previous post. I did this recently with a Seagate drive and am just about to do it with another.
The Ingram Micro website is: http://au.ingrammicro.com/corporate/corporate.jsp PS:I just checked the Seagate website and you get the address to send it to by filling in the RMA number and country and you are then given the address of the nearest service centre which is likely to be the closest Ingram Micro office. However Ingram Micro won't have your RMA number since they didn't issue it so it would be an idea to ring them and ask if if they require an RMA number issued by them. frendy,
You got your RMA from Seagate. Package the drive as shown on their website. Print an A4 page with the RA number at the top and the shipping address below it, (it might pay to put your return address on it too even though you gave it to them on their website) and stick it to the top of the box. Example: RA:123456 UPS SCS (AUSTRALIA) PTY LTD 1 INTERNATIONAL SQUARE TULLAMARINE VIC 3043 MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA Put a copy of the RMA in the box Take it down to Auspost or a courier of your choice and send it off. You will get one sent to you from Singapore. The only cost for you is when sending the drive to them. mareke, you're making things more complex than they need to be. He should already have an RA number, be stupid to trash it and get one from IM. I've sent a heap of drives back over the years and average turn around is 2 - 3 weeks. |

I outlined the way Seagate Customer Support advised me to do it but if he already has an RMA and is comfortable doing it the way you described that's fine. I only outlined my way of doing it because I thought he would have to send the drive overseas himself which would cost a lot. If that's not the case then he may as well do it the way you outlined. At least he has a choice now. The Ingram Micro way has the advantage of letting him speak to someone on the phone if he's not sure of something as well as being able to ring and check on the progress of the return if there is a holdup.

![]() my ~2TB drive just died Funnily enough this drive was also an RMA drive from seagate. 2 dead drives in just under a year. Thank god for the 3 year warranty. 50gb of porn down the drain. Thank god I can get it again off a friend of mine. Most importantly I formatted dad's 20gb drive on the weekend and made a ghost image of the drive with about 1000 scanned documents that are very very crucial for him. I would have been fucked up big time had I lost them. For some reason I got the urge to back them up on 3 drives the day before this drive died. Boy am I releived. Anyway here goes another RMA ![]() (drive is an 80gb seagate) Last edited by StratosFear; 29th April 2004 at 6:51 PM. |

Yeah pc is recognising it as 2tb. And in the bios the name of the drive is all garbled.
The loud *CLICK CLICK* *=GRIND=* of the drive yesterday kind of suggests to me it is a hdd issue and not a PC issue. ![]() But going to stick it in dads machine before sending it off to confirm. |

Well was reformatting my C partition on my 250GB Maxtor Maxline Plus2 and had a error saying my winxp pro cd couldn't write to the drive for some reason. At first thought it was my cd-rw drive playing up but on reboot SMART reported bad drive status. So using Maxtor PowerMax 4.06 tested the drive and came up with this
Code:
MAXTOR POWERMAX LOG FILE ------------------------- Maxtor PowerMax 4.06 Date Tested: 05/19/2004 Serial Number: Y61AJLBE Model Number: Maxtor 7Y250P0 FirmWareRev: YAR41BW0 Cylinders per Drive: 486344 Heads per Cylinder: 16 SPT: 63 Max LBA: 490234752 Quick Test Result: Advanced Test Required Error Code: Y61000 MAXTOR POWERMAX LOG FILE ------------------------- Maxtor PowerMax 4.06 Date Tested: 05/19/2004 Serial Number: Y61AJLBE Model Number: Maxtor 7Y250P0 FirmWareRev: YAR41BW0 Cylinders per Drive: 486344 Heads per Cylinder: 16 SPT: 63 Max LBA: 490234752 Advanced Test Result: FAILED Error Code: Y61S57

Ouch - I assume you had that data backed up - given it's your livelihood I'd be surprised if not ...
About a year ago I had a new Maxtor Diamondmax SATA 120GB go belly-up. Took about 2-3 weeks for the RMA through the retailer.
