Default Impact of IAA on HDD Performance

IAA = Intel Application Accelerator. This is a re-post from a different forum, but I think it fits better into the storage forum, because the question about the usefullness of the IAA pops up again and again.

The ABIT IT7 Max 2 let you run your parallel ATA HDD from 3 different controllers. The tested HDD is a 40GB Maxtor D740X.

(1) 845PE IDE controller
(2) the onboard HPT 374 ATA 133 RAID controller (as single disk)
(3) with the ABIT PATA to SATA adaptor from one of the 2 SATA channels

Look at the comparison! Winbench 99 is based on around 9 business and high-end content creating applications. This is real world performance. Important is the huge difference the Intel Application Accelerator has on application performance. I always thought the thing is evil, but this is not true at all. It seems also that the WB99 Business Diskmark test has a little problem with the 845PE controller, even when the accelerator is installed.

Looking forward to this, the more data we collect about this IAA thing the better.

Star Office and Open Office have similar options

on the thread topic i have not noticed significant real world increases on workstaions i have installed IAA on. Although these results make me think i possibly should have.

Depends on how you bench Winbench 99 is basically a HDD bench, but it is using applications, means close to real world (much closer and relevant than sandra or HDtach which are pretty useless to bench a HDD).

As IAA is working with caches or something, it might be the WB 99 is somewhat exaggerating the impact.
