Default IBM DeathStar 60GXP

i had one of these suckers for about a year and it recently comitted suicide, ive always been a bit suss about the drive, i think the fucker that sold it did something to it.

what i need to know is, the drives have the top side thats all shiny and metal and shit, on the underside, is all the circuity exposed or is there a cover on it too? i think the bastard might have taken it off to spite me after a threatened to report him to the department of fair trading for screwing me around.

The circuitry is meant to be exposed.

I think you're a little bit paranoid.

it just looks like there should be something there, no other drives have exposed circuitry down there, and theres screw holes that look about right for mounting some panel there.

I got one of these on my desk... the circuit's exposed alright...

I don't think the guy screwed you over... these are not very good drives to begin with... (imho, speaking from bad experiences)

Actually quite a few drives have circuitry exposed there.

The screw holes are actually for mounting the drive inside your case.

If you'd done some research, rather than accusing someone of malpractise, you'd see the the IBM 75GXP and 60GXP hard drives were well known for failure. The drive is in perfectly normal condition - it's just failed.

You can return it to the vendor if you bought it less than a year ago, otherwise you'll need to send it back to IBM if it's between 2 and 3 years old, and have it RAd. Going around calling the people who will have to help you bastards and accusing them of malicious damage won't do your cause any favours.
