Heh - thanks man - but I have a wee way to go. Just past 42k - 123 days of crunching left to hit 50k

In the time I have left that means I could possibly hit 44

I thought that I should probably pop in and explain myself.

As you can see currently on the BOINC stats my recent average production has been bouncing up and down in the top 3 producers. I am fortunate enough that I have permission to run distributed work on work machines when it won't impact staff (ie: out of hours).

My heart is toward F@H but its a pig to set up and have it behave itself with regard to stopping and starting during different times. BOINC is useful in as much that I can use it to see if a machine has not reported for a couple of days (indicator of troubles) and with its only run between X and Y hours feature.

Well, thats me summed up.

Only a couple of days to go now - then the end of an era *sniff*

I've pretty much given up on SETI at the moment BOINC's just lost the community that there used to be here, and there's no fun in continuing. I formatted a little while ago, and haven't bothered putting it back onto my main box. Any computers that have it running on, I haven't bothered wiping it, but, I've just lost any impetus I may have had in trying to get it going. Seriously, just cbf. And now, SETI Classic is ending *tear* the end of an era, as bob said. And well done getting to 45k. No matter how weirdly it was achieved :P

LOL, it's been pretty quiet in here over the last few months. I've been busy plugging away at Muon, but I've decided now that I'm in the top 100 there, I'll come back to SETI and jump up the rankings here.

So far, just got my X2 3800 @ 2.6G churning away with the optimized client. Any other SETI'ers using the same CPU that can compare their output to mine and give feedback?

Gonna put my A64 3200 @ stock and the Opteron 146 @ 2.7G into service shortly also

I should be in OCAU's Top 100 within 26 days with just the X2 3800 in service, so that'll be a good target to begin with. It'll take some time to get anywhere in the world rankings though....

Woah! I just hit 8th in OCAU Seti. *Spooky*.

I also fell out of the top 100 for F@H.

I predict that my seti rate will drop as old work machines that I borged(with permissoin) get re-imaged, but till then, sweet .

I need more machines! More I tells yah!

Whoa - I'm in OCAU's #94 already!!! And I'm only using the X2 & Opty 146, and my Celeron-M 1.5G lappy is crunching now on a very casual basis.

I'll have to revise my targets I'd say top 60 will be the go within 3 weeks, sooner if the weather stays cool enough to run it on my A64 3200+ as well, as I've already had to clock the rest back to stock on slightly lower than default voltage, due to a shocker 42.5 degree day followed by 39 and no aircon...

Heh, I worked with an OpenVMS clustered server for a couple of years. Despite several hardware faults, a relocation AND applied patches, we had an uptime of over 3 years. Shame that hardly anyone uses now.

Looks as though I've lost a few places since I left australia and will continue to do so.Uh-oh! When I eventually return home, I will most likely pick up where I left off, but for now I have different priorities.

Well, there's a lesson to be learned - don't use a power supply that is under rated for your system.

My Opteron 146 system is out of action for the moment due to this stupid oversight. Only had a 320W Topower PSU trying to power an Opteron 146 @ 2.6Ghz on a DFI NF4 Ultra Infinity, 512MB RAM & 7 Harddrives.

PSU got REALLY hot, then went POP....POP...DEAD . It was so hot you could have fried an egg on it 5 minutes after it died!!!! ROFL

Haven't got a spare PSU to test the motherboard, but there is no burn marks anywhere, so fingers crossed it's OK.

So it seems my output will be down about 400-500 credits a day till I get it back up. Gonna replace the 420W Topower that's powering the X2 3800 as well, just in case. I only have 2 HDD's in that system tho, and PSU isn't hot at all, so it's OK for the moment.

Why is this thread so quiet now????

(Regarding the quietness)

That's such a shame. I remember how this thread used to be one of the busiest out of all of them....

Lets see if we can breathe some life back into it

That was back in the day when SETI was competitive, and fun, now no one's using it much, and those who are don't seem to be talking. I've tried to resurrect the thread a few times, but each time, have just had a couple of replies, but not many, and then it gets to the stage where I could reply to myself in an effort to stimulate movement, but I don't think that if there's nothing being posted here without me double-posting to attract attention all the time, then there's going to be any action. We can try again, but, the SETI community on OCAU seems to have died.

*edit* just looked, and two pages back, it's already back to Feb of 2005, so there's not much posting going on, compared to the page in a week or two days */edit*
