I haven't seen anyone say this...
But there have been reports that nVidia are releasing their NV35 ahead of schedule, and that it should be out ~mid year.

If this does happen, it'll be like the Geforce 2 Ultra.

It was 3 times as fast as the 'new generation' Geforce. The Geforce DDR was totally new technology, utilising DDR memory, a GPU, and ALOT of features never used before.

The Geforce FX is the same, it's a baby, they are testing it... yes it kicks ass at the moment, and the 9800Pro may kick it, but the 9800 Pro is a step up from the 9700 Pro.

The Geforce FX2? :S will be hopefully 2 - 3 times as fast, because they would've had time to optimise it, drivers, memory problems, bottleneck problems, everything.

They may be lagging behind at the moment, but also remember the Det 50.xx's are supposed to be coming out 'soon', and like the previous driver jumps it'll help the FX with performance/issues.

I've never owned an ATi card, but I would like to go from my Ti 4400 to a 9700 Pro (or a 9800 Pro, if I could afford it), just to say that I've used a 9700 Pro (or an ATi card for that matter), and then I'll move from that to the Geforce FX2 (if they end up calling it that).

But the GF2 Ultra was to the GF2, what the FX5800 Ultra is to the FX5600.

Both the GF2 and FX have a ton of headroom from the 'standard' model, but the standard model for the FX is the 5600/U, not the 5800U.

No doubt the NV35 will be a screamer, but to expect 2 to 3 times the performance of the 5800U is a little on the optimistic side.

I would suggest that it will be twice the performance of the 5800Ultra at best, and that would be in games/software which support its functionality - i.e. DirectX9.0 games implementing the latest features.

THis effectively means that the card will not even remotely reach its potential until the end of this year, even if it is released in June (which I doubt).
