Default How to "unpop" the cones

Well my uncle has "long term" loaned me some huge speakers the only problem is that some of the cones have been popped. By popped I mean pushed in, there is no holes in the cones. Does anybody have any ideas how to "unpop" the cones?
Thanks

Yes. Using the vacuum is a common method.

I've never used it myself because I inform parents that if their kids touch any of my speaker cones they are up for $400 for a recone. Prevention is better than the cure. Always works.

hahaha cool, well I guess Ill give the vaccuum cleaner a go, should I impede its strength or will it be ok to just chuck it on straight away.
Edit: I dont think that there is a way of getting in behind the cone either.

LOL

if the cone is weak it could make the cone break. when u push down on something the vacuum cleaner gets stuck to it. i think what u would have to do if turn it on and off real quick. and see what happens.

DONT try and pull the vacuum cleaner away from the cone when its sucking as u'll rip the cone out

If using the vacuum, try setting it on lowest suction (assuming you have one that is variable), and increase slowly until it just grabs hold of the cone and is enough to suck it out. If you set it on really high and just jabbed the end of the hose to the speaker cone, you might find the entire dust cap will be sucked out with it.

Mission 700's series have inverted dustcaps (ie. they're concave instead of the usual convex so they don't have this problem)

I had this happen once, from a toddler of course. I just maxxed out the bass and slowly increased the volume of some music (I think it was The Prodigy ) until it fixed itself (didn't take a whole lot).

It's only the dust cap over the voice coil, so it doesn't really matter that it's pushed in.

I've heard of the pin trick, and I've also heard of the vacuum cleaner method as well. Either way it should work.

try not to touch the actual cone when doing this

you should never touch the cone. oil on our hands shortens their lifespan

ok, my three year old godson nicely pushed in both dustcaps on my JBL mains, so i know this works.

get a stanley knife, or preferably a scalpel, work your way around the glue holding them on, once they are off, straighten them out properly, then just glue them back on, easy!

and you could also convince your insurance company that they were stuffed, and buy a subwoofer with the money, but thats another story

I have done what trevor said for someone elses sub! I got a sharp knife . . . cut it off . . . popped it out and glued it back one! Worked a treat

I also had to do this for one of my lanzar subs. The tinsel wire for going into the coil had broken just inside the cone. I cut the dust cap off and soldered a bit of wire from inside the cone to the teriminals! Glued the cap back on and it goes as hard as it was new!

Only problem was a paper (cardboard) dust cap meant that it absorbed most of the glue I put on and hence it turned white! Nevermind at least it works well

the pin trick works for me.

just stick it in and jiggle a tiny bit and work it back into shape

*note to self. Don't fall asleep with hand on the sub.
