Wink

My vote goes to PowerDVD.

I've only run this and WinDVD but I prefer PowerDVD, never seems to have any problems.

Out of curiosity (and I'm not trying to steal your thread), does anyone use that PC Friendly DVD software that's included with some dvd's?
I find it very buggy and annoying... anyone else?

Cheers

No.

I don't find it buggy or annoying; in fact I think it's the most vile shitlicking piece of anal cruft ever written. I fervently hope that the people who wrote PCFriendly are herded into barns and set alight - and then buried in unmarked graves - by a Bobcat.

<Ahem>

PowerDVD 421 (latest) is just ever so slightly better than WinDVD 3.0 dts edition (unreleased as yet).

I use both.

PowerDVD is the slightly more techy program with a slight stability edge. WinDVD has an ever so slightly better picture.

PowerDVD has a bit better controllability than WinDVD.

All done on Geforce2 and 2MX systems. Radeon I make no comment as I won't buy one until Rad2 appears.

Both are essentially equal on sound thru digital output except that WinDVD has full dts analog decoding.

I make no judgement of analog or output via 4 channel speakers or or LFE decoding or downmixing.

If someone stuck a gun to my head it would be PowerDVD but I have both installed and both are super dooper, excellent programs.

Things have changed a lot in a relatively short time.

Personally my vote goes to WinDVD 2.3
I find the picture quailty far superior to the last version of PowerDVD i tried. Its rock stable and has a cool skin

give it a look at www.intervideo.com

they both use same ivi (intervideo) codec anyways, me thinks, I use the dvd player that comes with winME (cant find it?: have a look in windoze directory), lets you zoom & take screenshots

but since im running win98 now i guess i use windvd more cos powerdvd has green fuzzy picture (dont ask)

at no time did i say porn-dvd in this msg! lol

You thought wrong
PowerDVD uses its own (Cyberlink) codec. WinDVD is made by Intervideo.

Personally I prefer WinDVD. On my MX it gives a noticeably sharper picture and does a much better job with darker dvds (e.g. Ronin, Fight Club) than PowerDVD. WinDVD's downmix to 4 speakers also sounds better than PowerDVD imo. PowerDVD has the edge in a 2 speaker downmix though (use its Directsound3D mode).

PowerDVD has a better interface and its dvd info panel is nice if you're into divx

I like using Windvd when im in windows.
WinDVD 3.0.55 (now with DTS) is very nice!!!

if ya using Linux or BeOS or MacOS or other, then the only real choice is Videolan
i havent tried this in Windows though.

The latest is:

PowerDVD 3.0 build 421 (double click curtains in 'About' box).

WinDVD 3.0.55 dts edition (with new interface).

Both released now I guess.

I still like PowerDVD slightly more despite all the WinDVD advances.
