Help!
As I sit here in frustration, typing away on my old *gasp* PIII 800 running win ME while my new xp2100 with winxp and all the goodies sit dormant beside me, I wonder about hardware. I have read the other posts regarding the potential problems with the nf7-s v2 but haven't seen any that relate to onboard lan. Here is the prob. I am a telstra cable user, and have the supplied Motorolla Surfboard SB4100 modem, using the ethernet option to connect to my computer. this works fine (on the me box) and i get the normal ip of 144.etc.... Trying to connect this beauty of a plug into my nf7s lan port I keep coming up with the default 192.186.100.11 ip no matter what I try with the connection wizard or even with the phone support guys help from telstra. I have disabled and re-enabled in bios, have tried everything i can think of to get it to work, but nothing. I have even tried manually typing in the ip from my ME box into the XP box and quickly pulling the plug out of the me and into the xp, butno joy there either. Lastly I tried the usb option if in case there was something wrong with the ethernet port. Again after "repairing" the connect I still am only getting the default ip of 192.168.... Any suggestions? Anyone seen this before? thanks people Last edited by csbalkwill; 8th May 2003 at 7:53 AM. |

did you try installing the network card from your ME box into your xp box and see if you can connect through the NIC, you may have a driver problem for the onboard LAN or something might be wrong in the config of XP networking settings.
If that doesnt work try doing a system restore to your initial boot into XP (the first time xp booted after you installed the OS). Otherwise you may wanna post in the Internet/Networking forum for help. |

just a suggestion, try unplug the power to the motorola modem for at least a minute then try again. the modem may have remembered the MAC address of the WinME machine.
at least that's what happens on the optus network. |

You could always try typing
ipconfig /renew from a command prompt |

Tried the network card swap, no joy there either, will try the renew in the ipconfig, and will try the power for a min or so option. also if no joy tonight will try to do a new sysinstall on the weekend. thanks for the help people.
Also getting a switch from a mate to check the connect between the two computers, that way i will at least know if it is a hardware with the nf7-s or a software issue, keep you posted csb Last edited by csbalkwill; 8th May 2003 at 6:12 PM. |

On both my XP boxes I've needed to just disable, then re-enable the lan cards connected to the network, then they picked up their dhcp settings just fine. Lan works fine on my NF7-S btw.
