Default Service problems. Performance counters

When i go to run CoolMon, i get an access violation error when it tries to access my performance counters and logs.

I downloaded the MS program which displays what dll's are being logged and if they are active. This is not a coolmon problem as windows can't seem to start my performance counters. The result :

They are all shown as being active and enabled.

I open up the windows system monitor and get this
http://users.bigpond.net.au/ocaudarky/cool/image3.jpg
looks kinda blank for my liking...

I open up the services folder to start/stop the service, I start the service
http://users.bigpond.net.au/ocaudarky/cool/image1.jpg

it starts the service, then after about 3 seconds, i get this.
http://users.bigpond.net.au/ocaudarky/cool/image2.jpg
It stops.

I'm at a loss.

Sys specs: Tbird 900 running Windows 2000 latest service pack (Can't remember which, mental blank)
D.

Follow up, the event logged gives this error when trying to start the service.

The Performance Logs and Alerts service terminated with service-specific error 2003.

Again, this has NOTHING to do with coolmon, it's a windows problem. I cannot start the service myself, independently from the program.

ok, I have started looking here,
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;240389

Ok I found..:

Event ID 2003 Warning Message Logged When Loading Performance Counters
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;267831

After you install Windows 2000 on a drive that uses the FAT or FAT32 file system (that was formatted during the installation process) and install Internet Information Services (IIS) in the same Setup process, event ID 2003 warning messages may appear in the Application event log when you start System Monitor and add counters. This issue does not occur with NTFS drives that do not have a service pack, if the FAT or FAT32 drive is formatted before you run Windows 2000 Setup, or if you add IIS later. The event ID 2003 warning message has the following text:

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\w3ctrs.dll" for the "W3SVC" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\infoctrs.dll" for the "InetInfo" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.

The configuration information of the performance library "C:\WINNT\system32\aspperf.dll" for the "ASP" service does not match the trusted performance library information stored in the registry. The functions in this library will not be treated as trusted.
