bloody shithouse week (wrt music) I've had!

a few weeks ago the guitarist of my covers band announced he wants out, fine.. so we look around for a replacement and find one. Spend the next two weeks getting him up to speed on the basic 40 song set and all looks fine for the changeover. Agents are asking us if we want to book in the next allocation in town but because of the dramas with the guitarists (*rolls eyes.. * bloody guitarists) we decline, for the next few weeks at least.

Anyway, on tuesday I had originals prac until 4pm at which point I was heading to pick up the new guitarist for covers and go to band prac and I get a msg 'hey dude, dont worry bout picking me up, giving the band thing a miss'.. Now I have 2 covers gigs this weekend with a freshly and annoyingly vacant guitarist position. FUCK!
This put an end to the covers prac i was supposed to have on tues, no big deal.. talk to the original guitarist and he's cool with doing the next 3 gigs.
My originals band was booked for a gig on wed (tonight) and thurs this week (with fri and sat covers ) but late tues arvo I get a call saying the gig has been double booked and we are moved to some date in November.. This being our first gig at the Cambridge (biggest original music club in town) we're all disappointed as hell, but meh.

Tuesday night after hearing about the cancelled gig I line up a covers band prac for wed night, including a visit from an agency dude to check us out and book us around town. All go for launch.

This morning I get an sms saying the gig is now back on.. I cant cancel with the agency or they'll be pissed and cant cancel the gig either as the other guys in the band had to pull strings to get it back. FUCK!
So I arrange prac for 6pm till 7:45, drive promptly to my gig venue and play at 8 (I can set my bass up quick when i need to). Vein in my neck, growing, growing.

Stressed day at work adds to the charm of my week. Bonza.

Get to band prac at 5:30 in a hope my being early will sometime rub off on the drummer. Wait till 6:20 for drummer and set up my gear by 6:30. Set up the PA and drums in 10-15. 7pm rolls around, where the hell is the agent? he rings to let us know he has locked his keys in his womans car and she has gone out for the night. GREAT. So I nearly cancelled a gig at a big venue so this freak could lock his keys in the car.
I figure what the hell and jam until 7:45 anyway.

Get to the venue and soundguy is late, we dont get on until 8:45, at which point my black russian drinking rhythm guitarist is slurring speach and making a dick of himself. Superb!
I order an old and have it promptly knocked over and into the carpet of my cab on stage by the drummer/soundguy accidentally.

Lights go down, we do a soundcheck to killing in the name of (*rolls eyes again*) and with guitarists stopping to wonder 'oh, so we're gonna play this all the way through?'.. i have a chuckle and get on with it.

We play shithouse, probably due to drunkeness of people & the two guitarists not going direct such that I can only hear vocals and drums (you can always hear the drummer, right boys) through the foldbacks, barely hear myself.. but hey at least I had lyrics to go off. Just_____one_______of________those______nights.

Jump off stage and am surprised to find out later that we got paid a whopping $50 between 5 of us. Hey big spender!

Anyway thats my rant, I'm sick of my tone but cant afford a new bass or cab or amp its either mud-thump or pop-twang and no amount of EQ or boost/cut or preamp fiddling or adjusting playing style will fix it to how i want it. Bring on tomorrow nights gig, we'll do better I'm sure (it couldnt have been worse), and then the covers gigs *cha ching*.

Beers anyone?

Brief back from retirement post...

^^^^ Sounds bad man... the Cambridge isn't always a friendly crowd either... would HATE to be trying to get places musically in Newcastle. Terrible place for gigs.
.......

Just reporting to say I finally got my Vamp to make some sounds that I expected to hear out of it. Super distorted, tight, defined death metal tones, nice and loud, and wonderful piezo acoustic tones... ultra phat sounds. Love it. Will be getting some recording done this weekend, might even look at getting some vocals done now that I know how to play with it all.

There has to be an OCAUer who's able to get that on film. I don't think I could die happy until I've seen slashrox shred it up on stage.

I said i think i might be playing a song or 2. Ive been asked to but im still thinking about it.

and The film would be boring anyway because I wont be doing anything special, Ill be standing there like a cardboard cutout as I don't really move around when Playing guitar.

but, who knows? i might not be playing.

edit: and if i dont play, it doesn't really matter, ill still sit there in the pub

never had a problem getting into a pub before

But I guess Pubs such as Denman, Scone aren't as strict as they are here, but also I guess it depends on the venue and where it is.

I agree, The Tele's are the best looking guitars. Although I hate the look of thinline tele's.

I dont mind the tele custom (the 70's black one with the humbuckers) but the normal tele's just look better.

Is it a fender or a squire?

I dont like the look of thin lines either. Customs look ugly to me, why does it have to have such a huge pickguard :/?

Its a Fender Japan TL62B. Mainly want it for the awesome double binding, though a lot of tele players rave about its quality.

The quality of the guitar is really good. the guitar has a better clean sound than strats. The neck also feels nice & smooth.

Whatever gets you juiced.

The local just got a Kramer traded in. Genuine Floyd Rose Pro, Duncan designed PUs, slanted H with 2xSC, light metallic blue. Only 22 frets, doesn't feel as good as my new Kramer Striker. If I had any cash I'd something down on it though, no problems. This is the same place that has the OLP musicman MM 12 + 6 doubleneck..
