Pros: None
Cons: All of the above, plus spyware

Get yourself Media Player Classic. Plays everything Media Player does, and more.

spyware? ware? I mean where?!?

I really like MP9 as long as you turn off the crappy Full mode and use the 9SeriesDefault skin, it's small, no borders or bloaty crap anywhere and it stays on top of all your other windows nicely, which is good for watching movies while typing on forums, I'll have to try this Media Player classic...

P.S... Compared to the version that ships with WinXP Pro WMP9 is waayy better, imo.

I dunno about that, I've never had it refuse to play anything, apart from when I didn't have the correct Codecs for a cetain video or something..

I use Winamp for music and MP3's anyway..

I use WMP9 in Win2K on my curent machine for the majority of media, using the default skin and with all the options to report back to Microsoft turned off. Sometimes it stuffs me around with codecs when it checks the MS server, but other than that it's good.

I don't like how it takes forever to preview play an mp3 after I highlight mp3's within a window.

If I make an mp3 and want to name/rename it , if I put my mouse pointer on it , it takes quite a long time vs 6.4 & 7 to let me have access to the file or change its name.

Forget WM9, ZoomPlayer is the only player you'll ever need..

WMP9=Good. Plays everything well, fully configurable and of course if you pay attention you can turn off most of the intrusive settings.

Also when you minimize it, it sits in your toolbar as a little player. Out of the way but easily accessible.

I say WMP9 all the way! It is much quicker and more user friendly then simular software.
One thing I love is when you watch a DVD it get all the chapter names and finds out the DVD title for you (if configured correctly)

The only spyware it has is that it records all the DVD's and cd's you watch/listen to so that microsoft can sell that information to people/companys wanting to know what people are watching/listning to!

I try not to use it, only use it when viewimg wmv files or something.

I use a seperate player for my media files, and a seperate player for DVDs.

It's so bloated and full of spyware, plus it can never get the right codec

I use wmp9 for everything except mov's and mp3's
i use it to play everything else including dvd's

download the GK codec pack.
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/g...4.exe?download
comes with a proper filters etc, and you shouldn't have codec problems ever again..

Media Player Classic v6.4.8.5 for me, plays everything WMP9 plays plus RealPlayer and Quicktime files.
