Default This new ICQ blows !

I was forced to upgrade to the new ICQ today ; it wouldn't let me start the old one unless I upgraded Anyway this new one blows ! Lots more ads, more rubbish features and worst of all, the smilies look horrible !

/end rant

On a more positive note, my dad finally got ICQ installed so I now can chat to him instead of ringing him up (he's overseas)

Download icq lite, or http://go.icq.com, or get ICQ Plus to remove ads, or i'm sure someone will suggest get trillian or miranda icq ..

I was using a slightly older version of ICQ Lite 2003 which doesn't have all of these rubbish. Then it forced me to upgrade to the latest one which has all the junk, or it won't start I just tried Trillian and it couldn't import my ICQ contacts automatically and I couldn't be bothered adding them manually.

Interesting, I thought GAIM is a Linux thing only. Downloading it now. In Linux I use SIM - that's a great client.

Thanks for the suggestions

Edit: just tried GAIM. It rocks !!!

Which version of ICQ are you referring to? The latest version of "lite" or the latest version of "pro".
I'm running ICQ Pro 2003a and there's not a single ad. in it. I'm also using ICQPlus to skin it though. Even if you're not using a skin though, at least block the ad servers by modifying your hosts file.

windowspath\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

It's a plain ascii text file, add these lines:

127.0.0.1 ads.icq.com #icq
127.0.0.1 cb.icq.com
127.0.0.1 cf.icq.com #end icq

and ICQ will no longer be able to locate the server which hosts its ads.

Looks like I'm going to have to switch to a 3rd party ICQ client after all these years.

ICQ Lite now has adds :/
*dies*
They are giving me more and more reasons to delete it and rely soley on MSN..

Hooray for 2000b

the only reason I changed from 99b was due to it using different servers which started to die.
