Default net limiter

is it possible to limit the amount of K/sec a pc can get off an internet sharing network?

this is on a peer to peer network using XP and win98 on dial up using a straight through UTP cable

Look for a little program called 'bandwidth controller'.

Ti will let you set limits for connections based on up / down / protocol / ip.. etc.

It can be found on download.com I think. It runs on the PC you are limiting I think though, so you might want to hide it somehow?

So these are both shareware and not freeware? Anyone know any freeware programs that do this?

A bit of a thread hi-jack - does anybody know of a program such as netlimiter that can prioritise bandwidth? Netlimiter can't do this.

What I mean is that say I have Gozilla downloading flat out in the background, I want to make IE traffic a higher priority so that as soon as I start browsing it gives IE all the bandwidth it wants and lets Gozilla have the rest.

There is such a thing, and it is free, known as Linux. But I'd like to avoid running a separate box if I can.

Atomic magazine did an article on setting up a Linux box to do just this an issue or so ago. Was just wondering if there was a way of doing it in Windows.

goose202: Microsoft has already included this as a feature in Windows XP, it's called the Quality of Service Packet Scheduler or QoS Packet Scheduler though it requires that applications using it be "QoS-aware", not sure if the apps you want to work with this sort of system are (in fact I doubt many are at all)

pippen88: bandwidth controller runs on the ics server, not the client pc.

I love it how i can play online in urt and my.. ahem better half.. can still play her little pogo games and not interupt my head shots.

goose202: i can't help you with the prioritising part, bandwidth controller and netlimiter are both in use on mine and are the best i've seen for xp so far, you just have to manually change the settings. Netlimiter is easy for your application as it is just a couple of clicks to restrict one and increase the other.

I know that loonix can do these things so easily but i don't want either the expense of running a third box as a server or learning a totally new operating system.

Yeah I had a look at this, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with CS, IE, GoZilla or Kazaa. (or vice-versa)
