Default New Canon Digital SLR.

http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eosdigital/index.html

It's basically a baby 10D, and will probably hit the streets at a much cheaper price. Good news for everyone looking for a budget Digital SLR.

Yes, I saw the news too. Trust Macromedia Flash on my mum's *&%^*^%* computer to screw up just as i'm hungry for news!!

So far it looks like it does everything the 10D does but lacks the nice magnesium alloy body. Canon appears to have released a few new lens which are DSLR specific.

Going to try to get Macromedia Flash to work so that I can find out more about this new camera.

ive wanted a digital SLR for so long now, but just cant justify the cost for something i might use once every two weeks.

i wish Nikon would come out with a cheaper one like this.

US$999 MSRP, so it will probably start out at A$2000 and drop to about A$1750-1850 after a month or two.

I'd say it will be more like $2500 to start although with the $ at US$0.65 maybe not.

I prefer to think of it as the 10D's semi retarded brother.

Look forward to seeing this one. Given the 10D can be had for a tad over $2500 this one should be closer to the $2k mark.

All of you should head over to the Canon Digital SLR forums at dpreview . The 300D has become a hot topic with probably close to over 500 posts in the first 24 hours after announcement. My own feeling, having only purchased the 10D about a week ago, is that I would still purchase the 10D now. I love the feel of my 10D, it is so solid and robust.

That is awesome news Admiral, thanks for the update. You know I have been looking for something like this for awhile Hopefully this can live up to my expectations (however unrealistic they may be)

Although my only (small) concern is that if they can manage to manufacture the image sensors at a faster rate (the reason for the price reduction) will the quality be afftected at all??

Anyway its great for the DSLR market and it looksl ike things should start to hot up soon!!!

This time it's 'not', Canon RRP at A$1999 including 18-55 lens (300D only,) some other info in the link but it's drowning in marketing crap.

Well its street price in Singapore is being rumored to be arnd SGD$1.7k. Bout the price I paid for my DiMage 7i when it came out there.

Honestly, its just a budget DSLR camera for those who buy the prosumer DSRL-like cameras. I personally would have bought the 300D had it been out back then. $1.7k w/ lense is a no brainer for a DSLR especialy since the image quality is reputed to be the same as the 10D.

Yeah i found out about this the other day but having nikon len's i wasnt to interested.

Its a good idea and its suprising it took so long for somthing like this model to come out. But looking at it , it does seem to be very plastic and cheap which has pro's and con's.

I actually got to play with a Nikon D100 for a few days and even that felt like it had to much plastic in it to me , its a good camera but being over 5 megapixel produced images no better then my 2.47 megapixel camera... although obvisouly because of its evolution the D100 had better colorspace and exposure control.... not to mention white balance.

I didnt find out but is the 300D a CMOS or CDD chip and how much of the frame does it fill ?
