Default 9600 or 9800

*this isn't a what/where to buy thread read it all and you will see its not.

i want to justify whether paying the extra for a 9800 will be beneficial. my specs are

2500xp at 200x12 w/spire rock
corsair 512mb 3500 ram
abit nf7-s 2.0

i am currently using a geforce 1 ddr
i dont really want to spend all out, but i dont want the rest of my computer to be a bottleneck to my videocard.
i think a 9600 pro will be ok for my needs, i dont game that much but would like to play HL2 when it comes out at OK specs but will prolly get a 9800 if you guys can convince me.

Talk about a bottleneck...

Get a 9800.. you wont belive the difference. Hell get the 9600, you will be just as amazed.

As for future proofing your machine for HL2.. you will need something better then a 9800, so get the 9800 if these are your options.

A 9600pro will work fairly well on HL2... just looking @ those benchmarks. A 9800pro will do much better though... but of course with a price to match. If you are on a budget... the 9600pro will make a HUGE difference against the GF1 DDR you got. But if you're willing to got the whole hog... a 9800pro won't go amiss either

For middle ground, the 9800non-pro ain't bad... or if you can find a 9700pro on the cheap...

Despite your protests, this *IS* a "What/Where Should I Buy?" question - you're asking which card to buy.

I acknowledge that it is related specifically to video cards, but that doesn't change the fact that it belongs in a different forum.

Closed. Please re-post in the appropriate forum if you wish the question to be answered.
