The company is GeCube, but the logo happens to have an 'X' in the middle of it.

Yes I know the website is Gecube etc, but you see heaps of hardware sites advertising Gecube & Gexcube stuff.

Why the hell then do they need the X in the logo if they are only Gecube?

and damn Gigacube sounded better than either gecube or gexcube.

Actually goto their website -
http://www.gecube.com.tw/

And read the scrolly news item, sometimes they call themselves gecube other times gexcube....

blah..

TW crap I think.

I'm not bitching.

What if the CPU you just bought they decided to change their name midflight or change it mid news stream like gecube do?

Personally I could care less if they have a good product, but consistency = product loyalty.

Otherwise why are brandnames important?

I have an intel, um IeXtel um Ieel! (simple I know but the same in a way).

Not looking for a fight, just why do they need to redesign themselves? Damn I only thought Infomercial companies did that!

I'm guessing they dumped Gigacube to differentiate themselves from Gigabyte.

Fair enuff call there..
I just like the companies I buy stuff from to stay with the same name for a few years!

In the news scrolly on their website they are in some posts "Gecube" other posts "Gexcube"....

Just pick something already I reckon.
They have well priced cards, but how can they get customer loyalty with name changes all the time?

BTW, I am a picky bastard! lol

I think Gecube is their lower end cards, and GeXcube is their higher end (9800/9800PRO) cards. Confusing nonetheless..

In the end does it matter? One more company to bring the prices of 9800 cards down is allllll good!

Well my Gigacube 9800 Pro has been fantastic - not a crash, lockup or glitch with this baby. I think they changed from Gigacube to further distance themselves from Gigabyte, but otherwise as long as the company remains in existence I'm sure they honour their warranties. Judging from the overall quality and presentation of my card and packaging I would highly recommend these cards to anyone. Definitely not "cheap" in terms of quality.

am i right in saying gecube gigacube etc. ARE gigabyte, just gigabyte wants to differentiate the name cos there basically selling the same thing but cheaper.

if that is correct, then gigabyte gecube or whoever they are, have done the right thing in differentiating further from the gigabyte brand (from gigacube to gecube) and doing it now rather than later is better.

Strictly speaking this company is not Gigabyte, but I assume they use the experience and expertise of Gigabyte given they are an offshoot.

Basically they have a headstart from most other fledgling companies, and that's why I bought a card from them. They probably have the same sort of quality control processes as Gigabyte and this is borne out in their cards' excellent quality.

From what I understand, Gigacube/GeCube/GexCube is targeted more towards OEM sales - hence the no-frills stock cooling solutions on their reference-based cards. They distance themselves from Gigabyte probably because if anything goes wrong with Gigacube/Gexcube then it won't hurt Gigabyte's reputation and also probably not to damage Gigabyte's sales too much.

I always recommend customers to Gigacube... cheaper alternative, same performance. I have a 9800NP at home, works admirably. 1600x1200 in all games, not a hiccup.

gigabyte market cards under the gigabyte name for $100 or so more, so you're right about making the names more different.
I though geXcube was the name for the extreme/XT and gecube was for the lower end cards.
Anyway I cant complain about my 9600 pro extreme, its an improvement on my gf440mx and delta force black hawk down is a kinda fun game. Driver supplied is crap though, had issues until I downloaded cat 3.7

Off-topic a little... I've yet to use the standard driver supplied with any of my video cards in the last 6-7 years.
