Yes. Definately a hard call.
And I take it that you can backup ps2 games easier than Xbox???
I see that ps2 games are single layered DVD5 and Xbox are dual layered DVD9. And because DVD-R are only available in single layered DVD5, I assume that they would be easier to backup.

actually 99% of xbox games are DVD-5

Not that it should be an issue when buying a console.

PS2 supports DVD9 disks for games.. MGS2 is on DVD9 and so are other games.

dont worry the disks dont scratch easily if you take care of them so you dont have to make backups of the games.

I would have bought a X-box or waited for the psx or ps3. I really like the x-box s controller, plus I really want to play top spin and a couple of other games. PS2 is good but it's getting a bit old with psx coming out.

As for ps2 emulator, if someone actually made one, then someone else will probably port it to xbox. But the chances of that is pretty slim.

The chances of it actualy being able to run a ps2 game are nil.

buy both of them thats what i did.

when a game comes out for xbox & ps2 i usually get the xbox version to have better graphics (except for ea games of course).

but if i had 1 choice i would probably go for the ps2 as it has more games out atm.

If you like pc games and have a crappy pc i would suggest an xbox no doubt.

i dunno y ppl like fps's so much on consoles, i really really hate them.

A few people have said it, I think it's best to get the one which has the games you want, and probably what a few of your mates have.

For me it is a simple choice, two words; Gran Turismo.

Well, I was recently faced with this same problem, and I ended up choosing the X-Box.

The only two games that I really wanted to play were Soul Calibur 2 and Project Gotham Racing 2.

SC2 was available on both platforms, and I was thinking of getting a PS2 for GT4, but couldn't afford to wait and was after a more arcade style racer anyway so I ended up going for the X-Box.

The fact that I got my X-Box for $179 was also a sweetener in the deal.

I'm disappointed that I need to get a DVD Dongle to watching DVD's though and also the sub-standard quality of default A/V connections that come standard. I'll have to fork out another $35 to get the advanced A/V pack, which in my opinion, should be standard.

Does that actually do anything on normal crt tvs, or does it only make a difference on high end tvs?

Don't know, I've got a HD TV...
I'm not even sure I'll notice a difference with that, but it would be nice to have s-video connection out of the box.

I bought the advance AV pack and there is a slight but noticeable difference between composite and S-Video outputs. I'm viewing this on a 42" plasma screen. If you don't want the toslink output you can always buy one of those S-Video cables that are on Ebay. I'm not sure of the quality though.

What I don't understand is why you cannot buy the HD AV pack in Australia (component output).
