I don't know what everyone is so excited about...
10gb? At a possible 600k/sec?! That's not even 1 day of thrashing the net. On 1.5mbit ADSL (150k/sec) you can do around 15gb a day. But after 10gb you get shaped to 6k/sec, how useless.. I'll stick with my 512k/128k DART unlimited ADSL account for now. 10gb is 2 days to me. Bring on unlimited Cable

If that really IS true, I think you need to find something else to do in your life than just surf the net.

People like 'me'? What the hell are there unlimited ADSL plans for? For people who don't like limitations. 10gb on cable would be simple... web surfing would be 10 x faster than normal, therefore you would SURF more in that time = using more of your cap. "something else to do in life than just surf the net". I work 6 days a week, I'm engaged, and live in my own house, I do not have that much spare time to 'surf the net'. Optus and Telstra took away their unlimited plans because they advertised something they couldn't sustain. They couldn't handle (and didn't like) people thrashing their network. Again, that's why there are "unlimited" plans... I don't have unlimited to casually use it, I grab what I want, when I want.

Slight Update...
Optus may release new cable plans in the Dec 2003 and Jan 2004 timeframe, to respond to Telstra's unlimited plans. (Major changes are still designated for March 2004 to coincide with OptusNet ADSL). No major details yet. You have to wait. Its not as fast as the "knee jerk" reaction that other ISPs have. (Dart and Internode did make a slight adjustment in one of their flatrate plans). So, if you can, stay for a bit. You maybe surprised by what you get with your patience. At least you won't be locked into a 2yr contract. ![]() One thing to say. Cable will NEVER be unlimited in this country. No one's networking infrastructure is able to handle this kind of load indefinitely. Its not profitable and will result in a poor quality of service. You can have your ADSL (because it fits your uses), but for my uses, extremely low pings and awesome speed rules the roost in my house. (all my family members want FAST). Besides, we can't get ADSL...Only Telstra and Optus Cable...So my dad got both. ![]() Hmmm, my Telstra Cable gets 10GB and then shaped, my Optus Cable will probably get the same...20GB total...I'm not complaining. ![]() Now to figure out how to develop some load balancing software for two cable connections...

Forgot to add, that Telstra 10GB is metered BOTH WAYS!
This is FAR different from Optus, where its only metered in downloads.

Don't know the details...
My buddy tells me, they'll be generous and it will come soon. Just hold onto those cables.

I suppose you're probably lumping me into the group of leachers that put made Telstra/Optus put caps into force in the first place too. The Netstats figure in that pic is probably the highest I've had in months and is from the smallish spree I had after finishing Uni exams. It's back down now. Anyway I'm moving house next year to an area where I cant cable. Is there really that big a difference between cable and ADSL? Anyone move from cable to ADSL have any comments? Also heard that ADSL might not even be available straight away when I move! Might be dial-up for little while, doh! |

Id still like to know how Optus can "forget" to take people off the Netstats program when it was pahsed out "completely" How?? It doesnt make sense. You think Optus would see that a few users were still using it and say " Wait a min...." But no.. something very dodgy
