Default Buying my first digicam

Theres a lot of threads about specific shootouts of cams and stuff like that, but im rather new to this topic and wondering what type of camera i can get for sub 300$. Is it possiable to get a reasonable (2mp or so) camera for cheap, while still maintaining quality?

i have a cannon powershot g1 on loan from uni at the moment and i absolutly love it, but im guessing it would be rather expensive. (a little off topic) but is there a way to do time lapse with that camera??

Cheers guys

sub 300 you're starting to get into cheap cam territory.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with it really?

do you want to get out there and be all changing your own settings and shit, or do you want to just take photos.

do you want said photos to be able to print out at large sizes, or are you happy with computer displayed images & small printouts?

Don't forget accessories & the like, they can add up!

having said that, eyo have a sub$300 cam that doesn't look _too bad_.

The camera is for a marrige celibrant so lots of outdoor pictures and a reasonable zoom id assume. Is the best place to look big places like Photo Contential, or order online??

well i'm looking into the canon powershot a60. All the reviews i've read have said its a really quality camera. Its a 2mp with both auto and manual features, 3x optical zoom and 3 (or2 cant remember :P) digital zoom. Anyways this review basically takes you through the whole deal..

a60 review

i know this camera isn't sub $300 but its not that much more, i've seen it as low as $385.
