Default PSX/2 Controller to PC mod please

Not sure if this is the right forum, but does anyone know (or can direct me to a place for) modifying a playstation controller or whipping up a converter thingy (I'd prefer not to kill my controller) so I can use it on my PC? I'm too cheap to buy nuthin', hehehe.

Hey thanks CaeSiuM, but I think I do wanna still use my pad for the console, hehehe.
I figure I'd probably kill it... Was a good read though.

You can buy USB --> PS/n64 controller adapters so there isn't any soldering of parts together for about $20 or less.

Hack up an extension cable instead of the actual controller cable.

Yeah but that would entail spending money, hehehe.
Gawd I'm cheap.
Nice thought though...
