Using front panel jacks on A7N8X

Just got my a7n8x deluxe board running, and I want to be able to use the front headphone jacks sometimes and the speakers at other times.
The manual isn't particularly helpfull but at 2.8.23 itshows the onboard front panel connector is marked as
Line out L/bline out L and line out R/ bline out R and these pins are connected by a removable link. If I remove the link and connect the front panel leads I get sound to the front jack but not the rear jacks.
Is it possible to get sound to both and if so how, please?
