Question Geforce Detonator Drivers

Has anyone else tried using these drivers and if so are they any good? Have downloaded them but have not installed them yet. Keeps giving me a "..... not a valid win32 application" error. Ideas?

Well depends on your vid card, anything more than 6.xx are optimised for dx8 so you may not be able to play some of the older games. I use 12.90's on my geforce 3 cause they are a huge imporvement for me over the 12.41's, but people with geforce 2's drop in performance going from 12.41 to 12.90, those drivers are optimised for the gf3 cards. If the 6.50's work fine and are doing their job then keep em, i wish i could go back to em cause I can't play midtown madness 2 now

I had the same problem (with new drivers & midtown madness 2) my solution was to get the update from MS for the game - works sweet now - before that all I got was horrible plain white everything

btw after a shit load of testing - on my old geforce DDR and geforce3 the best drivers I decided on were the &.52's for the old card ( in the missus's pc now ) and yep the 12.9's for the geforce3

the WHQL detonator 12.41's are a farce. don't bother getting them. funnily enough they have a ton of bugs in them. (eg: no TNT1 support, no overclocking, etc). so much for "Windows Hardware Quality"

go here and get the 12.90's:

http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/Drivers.htm

they are (for my geforce2mx) the best i have ever had in terms of performance. i've managed my highest 3dmark2001 score to date on these. however a lot of people swear by the 10.80 drivers. but whatever bakes your biscuits.

either way don't use the 6.XX's. as mentioned they are not dx8 compatible, and won't suit if you are trying to run any dx8 applications/benchmarks.

i personally wouldn't go anything below the 10.80's
they were very stable

Im gonna try the latest 12.90's now. Hopefully they work in windows xp

ye im on xp, 12.90s work fine
if u get a blocked thing due to signature theres a option somehwere in control panel where u can say do not block unsigned files only warn etc etc

to install the drivers just update the drivers thru device manager or thru display -> change driver or whatever and direct the wizard to the folder with the driver.

Download 12.90s from www.3dchipset.com then unzip them somewhere you'll remember.

Go into add/remove programs and remove the nvidia drivers then reboot, when the hardware wizard asks for the drivers point it to where you unzipped the file you downloaded.

12.90s fixed a problem I had with 12.40s were if i went into advanced properties the refresh rate would default back to 60htz.

Improves performance a bit as well.

BTW ive got a Leadtek MX.

Cheers.

for tnt users i highly recommend the 2.08 drivers. they were without doubt the best detonator drivers for the tnt, tnt2 cards.

i'm using 12.41 with my Geforce 2 GTS atm.

Since this has nothing to do with Hardware or Overclocking, ill move it to the "Software Stuff" forum
