look around in the yellow pages.. for some reptile shops.. they are sure to have turtles.. i noe in victoria some turtles require license and they have to be a medium size to be sold legally.

No idea why I didnt see this thread earlier. Some sweet tanks, love the Catfish taksan and JimJens Marine Tank is breathtaking. Ive been keeping Goldfish out the back for a while but have just setup my first tropical tank in the living room. Its also part of a modding project and an MCE Home Theatre Box. Been reading alot on FishForums.com and Adelaide Aquariums but havent found a local forum yet. AusFishForums.com sounds good.
Custom 800x500 160L Tank, 2x 350l/h Internal Power Filters, Heater and Light. Cycled it fishless for a week and slowly adding fish. This is the second week since Ive had it setup. Currently have - Pair of Swordtails (female is nipping at every fancy fin she sees)Looking to add 3 or 4 more before I reckon its bordering on overstocking. Leaning toward getting some type of Shark, perhaps a Clown Loach but Ive heard they prefer being in a shoal. Wouldnt mind a Electric Yellow, for around $15 they arent as expensive as I thought. The colours and patterns on some of the Gourami are tempting as well. Wouldnt mind some recommendations on fancier additions to the tank. Also looking to add more plants next week. Damm Mollies are almost as bad Goldfish, they are taking 3 bites out the bottom of my Vallis and the entire leaf floats off. Probably looking to cover the entire back panel of glass with larger plants and have some smaller Java Ferns in the front. Starting to love the planted tank look. Anyone willing to part with some of their collection? Im interested in purchasing a canister filter; would a Generic ~1200l/h filter be overkill for a 150L or should I stick to Internal Power Filters? Im trying to take some photos of the entire setup, gotta give the camera a charge and whenever you want a shot of fish they end up shy or the good shots come out blurred. EDIT: Ok, took around 40 Shots and ended up with around 4 decent ones... The entire entertainment unit; spent more time watching the fish this afternoon then the Power v Geelong match ![]() One of my favourite guys, Gold Gourami. Pair of Angel Fish

Driftwood is a bitch; got a piece sitting in a bucket out back hoping all the tannins leach out before I chuck it into my tank. They should sell pre-soaked driftwood....
Love the plants, whats the output of your lights? I really want to get another half dozen plants for my aquarium but more plants mean a better light and a better light means getting my glazier to make me a new cover and a new cover means another fortnight waiting. Gah. |

Yeah, they mentioned a chemical like that as well for the driftwood.
Just had another check on one of my Angels; s/he has developed a red mark around the gills. It was there at the LFS, the girl checked with the manager and got told it was pretty normal but I wouldnt mind a second opinion. The swordtail seems to enjoy sucking at that area if not the fin. Should I be concerned? http://www.bur.st/~ronza/temppics/injuredangel.JPG |

I rang mine and they said I could catch what ever I wanted from the rockpools on the Sunshine Coast but I had to obey the bag limit and size limits set for fishermen. That meant I couldn't take things like wrasse and bream and such as they were too small. You can't take coral usually. But yeah ring up the DPI and I found them quite helpful. I've had a tank for 6 months now running with just things I got from rockpools. Just now I'm changing it to bought fish and live rock to get a little more colour in there. Not to say you cant get colour from the fish in the rockpools. Just they are heaps harder to catch.

Been awhile since I posted on what is happening with my tank so here we go.
In Feb I released all my fish into the dam at my house (Barramundi, Archerfish, Bass, Eel Tailed Catfish). I then dumped 20kg of limestone type sand in the tank and filled it with salt water. Then got some rocks from rock pools and caught some fish. I left it running about 6 months with 5 Sergent Major Damsels, 2 gobies and another fish which is a damsel but I dont know what type. About a month back now I got rid of all the fish except 1 gobie and the damsel of unknown type. I put in 3kg of live rock and 5kg of base rock and seeded my sandbed with sand from mudflats at a local beach to get heaps of bacteria, worms and such into the tank. Last weekend I put in a 700lph powerhead (which we modded and now puts out probally 800-900lph. Also bought a air powered skimmer and airpump. I didn't expect the air skimmer to be very good. It only cost $35 for the skimmer and pump but its working really really well. So now I'm going to mod the skimmer so that it will sit outside that (it is supposed to stay in the tank but it takes up too much room.) Below are some photos of it. Hopefully in about 2 weeks I should be able to start adding fish. Depends how the cycle goes. The tank is 60x30x45cm. Not sure what fish I will get for it yet. Thinking a Coral Beauty, Firegoby, Clowns, something along those lines. Also planning on adding more live rock. I want to build up the middle till its about 10-15cm below the water surface. I have my tank sitting on my desk, the way I have it is that it can be viewed from both the large sides and one of the small sides. Which is really good as you can see things all around the tank. I was even stopped by a fisheries officer at O'Sullivans beach boat ramp when I was getting an esky full of sea water to cook crabs in, I was allowed to take the water, he just wanted to make sure there was nothing else in there.... So I can catch a legal King George whiting and either throw it back, eat it, chop it into small pieces and chuck it in a bin, feed it to a cat....ANYTHING except take it home and put it in a tank. Wierd. Honestly this shits me, I really wanted to have a large tank that reflected what you would find if you dived offshore here. Well, maybe without a White Pointer....

Finally got around to fixing the fish tank it had been leaking since a large rock had been dropped and cracked the botom plate.
currently only has a large (20cm) blue crayfish and a bass in it. will try and get some good shots of the crayfish since he is a angry looking critter with his red eyes. Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store |
