Default WINAMP: Playing Tracks With No Pause.

Hi,

Google & searched this forum, with no results, when searching google, it kept returning sites that talked about continuous play as in, repeating the playlist after getting to the last song.

But what I would like to know is, is there a setting in Winamp (searched numerous times) that lets you play tracks without a pause between them, for example live cd's that aren't one big file, or in particular trance/techno cd's that don't stop but each song has it's own file.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Due to a techicality with the MP3 format, you are unable to gap-lessly play MP3's.

May I suggest that you store your music in a lossless format such as Monkey's Audio (www.monkeysaudio.com) that allows you to play audio continuously without any gaps.

Also, give Foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.com) a shot. It may look bland at first, but with an hours customisation you'll have the most versatile and powerful audio player you've ever used

On one of the older series of Winamp players (2.7x?), there was a DirectSound output plugin with gapless output.

The tracks would blend together perfectly... but then there would be a small but noticeable skip in the 2nd track after 10 seconds or so.

If you're making rips yourself though, rip with EAC and use WinLame's "gapless encoding" to produce seperate tracks that will play seamlessly. It's a dirty hack though so you might have problems with portable and other non-PC players.

I don't know if this works or not but I came across it yesterday when browsing the Output plugins for winamp:

Gapless Audio Output

Wheather this is of interest to you, this can be done in *.wav format.

For example if you have an mp3 recording mix and want to burn to CD, there is a properties icon in Nero where you can split the the mix into several tracks even though it is the one mix.

i.e 75 min mix can be split into 1,2,3......30 (whatever number) tracks of that mix.

I think this is what you want, if it is nero can do it.

If you want to get a bit more technical soundforge or Cool Edit can do this to with any sound files, with the extras such us normalization, amplification etc.

I just tested it by playing Dream Theater - Live Scenes In New York and it works great

EDIT: Just noticed it screws up the volume. I usually have it set to about 25% in the nforce control panel thats fine volume for everything in windows and then I set the volume accordingly in winamp but with this plugin it sets my windows volume to about 1% and anything higher is just way too loud.

Excellent thanks heaps all.

I might try those DJ-Studd, thanks man.

And yeah I only rip using EAC/LAME, but haven't tried the gapless encoding yet - sounds good though.

MR CHILLED, that's what I was after in particular though, it works awesome man thanks! No more gaps. Beautiful!

Lol

fyi nero converts the files to raw audio, then manipulates them.

i use foobar, it's truly a great player
on tracks with no pause at the end of them, they play pretty damn close to seamless playback...
probably 0.05 - 0.10 second pause. not audiable unless you *really* listen for it. audio is outputed to the card via kernel streaming. i use directsound 2.0 when i need crossfade.
