Default linein on dell laptop

is there a line in on newish dell laptops? someone just asked me about it, but i cant get to see the machine...dell inspiron 5100. prehaps a switch in the bios to choose between line in/mic in?

i am not sure if line in describes it but yes you can record stuff using software through mic in just like line in
and changing inou volume doesn't seem to effect the signal.
hope that helps

the new laptops have a line out and mic in inputs
