Care of my new battery

I've just bought an IXUS 400. Is there anything i need to do to take care of/get the best performance from my battery? Its charging at the moment, should i leave it overnight, or just until the red light goes off? Should i completely discharge the battery before charging it in the future? please advise

You don't need to charge it for a long period first time, just a normal charge is fine. As for discharging before charging, look here.
