Default Laser Printer Print Quality Problem

I have a Lexmark Optra R+ printer and after I upgraded to another HP printer, it has been sitting in the corner unused. Recently, I tried to use it again, but it keeps printing unwanted black marks all over the page, which didn't show up previously. Is it because of dust getting into the printer?

Thanks

Possibly try shaking the toner to evenly distribute the ink, if that does not work try to see if the printer has a cleaning function and also open up the printer and use a small brush to try to get rid of the black toner dust that gathers after a bit of printing.

I have tried do a bit of cleaning and shaking on the cart. The first page comes out cleaner with a bit of marks, subsequent pages have more marks till it is the same condition as it was. If I replace the cart with a new one, would the problem be solved?

Also in general, would all laser printers have this problem if left unused for a long period of time?

Thanks

Try giving the fuser roller a bit of a clean

generally though, laser printers shouldnt have this problem if left for long periods of time

The Optra R units have a nasty habit of developing dirty transfer rollers, (if you take the drum assy out, the tranfer roller is directly above it, usually white, give it a clean with shellite or metho.)

Also, try stopping the printer during a print run and remove the drum, if the marking occurs before the page is fused and after the drum then 90% chance it is the drum, 10% chance it's the ROS.
