Default Video Problems

It seems i'm experiencing some problems with games, everything is fine for about 5 minutes and then the screen goes black rendering the system useless or totally rebooting it. Has happend with Battlefield 1942 V1.6 & Command and Conquer Generals V1.7, but doesn't happen with other games like Gangland for example. I just did a fresh install of Windows XP Home on the weekend, XP is fully updated and i'm using DirextX 9.0b.

Display: Geforce 4 Ti4800 128MB (DRIVERS: 53.03)
CPU: AMD XP2000+
RAM: 512MB DDR

Any ideas?

Always the first thing to try is updating your video drivers. I'm not an NVIDIA owner, but IIRC there is a driver release newer than 53.03, which fixes a whole bunch of problems.

Try older drivers for your 4800. Mine did the same thing on various games with "Forceware" drivers, but the older "Detonators" worked fine

CPU Temp is 35C Idle.

Formatted last night and installed 45.23, not sure if that was the problem because i had already tried them but thought a clean install would be a better idea. Battlefield 1942 seems to work now, one other thing that could have caused a few problems was onboard sound, so i just dumped in a new soundcard and everything is AOK.

Not sure about generals, will give that a go.
