cables..

all you need is an optical cable from the NF7-S to the receiver.
enable digital output and also hit dolby digital encoding.

Cheers.

yes but my receiver allows 6ch input so would it be better to run the 5 cables from the mobo to receiver with the optical cable? Or just run a 2 cable rca plug (L & R channel) with the optical cable? With it make a difference either way since Im running the optical aswell?

My receiver is a Yamaha RX-V595

Where is the best/cheapest place to get cables in Adelaide? Jaycar?

running analog 6channel cables will defeat the purpose of having a receiver. you will be using crappy realtek DAC's instead of the ones on the receiver which are MILES better than the DAC's on the mobo.

just run the optical cable. that's all you need.

any cheap ass optical cable will do. its all bout the bits..

Cheers.

Hunt down a specialised Home Theatre shop, they'll have some totally bitchin cables. Sure they may cost $$$ but defnetly worth the investment. A good Optical cable sould cost about $70.

TIP: Only use the volume control on your Yamaha reciever whenever possible. If you use your volume control on your computer (which has pissweak output) it will distort at a much lower volume. Keep te volume low on your soundcard and the volume higher on your reciever.

I go though my Hercules Game Theatre XP 7.1 to my Pioneer VSX-D409 = da shit.

Well optical cables are not made equal. Well I certainly wouldn't be using cheap crap.

Coax however you can use some pretty darn horrible cables without worry.

How exactly are they going to differ in quality ? The more expensive cables just have more protection etc, the sound transferring is exactly the same.

Not only the insulation. but more purified copper, gold plated connections. better construction. Usially longer too.

Maybe its just me but optical cables dont use copper or gold in their connection :S ? Apart from at the end, which is just to keep the light inside, even then some only use plastic to do that.

When using the digial out in the nforce2 control panel you don't want to use Dolby-Digital encoding if you're only going to be using a 2-speaker stereo setup.

DD Encoding compresses two-channel sources into 6 channels to be decoded and distributed by your receiver to 6 speakers. It lowers the sound quality slightly.
