Hello...

I have an Abit DigiDice, which consists of:

- P4 3.2 Northy
- 9800 XT
- 2 x 512MB PC4000 KingMax Tiny BGA
- 1 x 36GB Raptor
- 1 x 200GB SATA
- Pioneer 107D Dvd Burner

And soon to be adding:

- 1 x 250GB IDE Fluid Drive
- Audigy 2 ZS

I dont plan of modding it, looks funky the way it is and i doubt temps will be a problem. My Video Card and Ram should be arriving today so I can get her cranking!

Some pics ...

Ill update the pics when final parts arrive!
Cheers

You should post pics of your actual setup, not a review of it!

I installed the Shuttle SilentX 250W which is suppose to be quieter and cooler because it uses different housing setups for better airflow. Along with that, I Swap from the normal case cover to the black mesh cover for better intake airflow for both the PSU and my 9800XT. The total cost for both parts came to $200AUD and the performance gain I got back in return was minimal...1 degrees avg. lower CPU temp and 2 degrees avg. lower CASE temp.

Has anybody here tried to fit in a SLOT FAN for their barebone?

The suson fan that comes stock with the heat pipe is rather LOUD. I rather sacrifice me PCI slot for EXHAUST SLOT FAN made by JustCooler than have 1 freakin' loud fan! SOmebody told me they have both the long version and short version of this slot fan and it didn't fit. Has anybody successfully fitted one into their barebone?

Nice setup mikemike, i was considering the 250W PSU as the whine from the 220W 40mm fans is a little annoying, did you notice anything on that front?
I've found no need to run the fan at full speed unless your freaked about temps, mine does not crash or anything and i have in on low.
PCI slot blowers seem a popular choice but i use my slot for a TV card.

I run the XPC system listed in my sig, the only 'mod' would be the replacement of my old G2 case/PSU with a G4 case and silentX PSU (the Ati motherboard didn't like the TwinMOS ram I was running at the time so I put it in an older XPC elsewhere in the house). The PSU is a little quieter, but the Sunon 80mm is still a bit of a loud beast.

Spodes abode had a mod up replacing the sunon with two quieter 80cm evercools, one on the inside outside the shroud and one outside the case.

Worth a shot for the adventurous?

that mod looks quite effective, and it gives me an excuse to change the fans

btw, i have an SB65G2, p4 2.8, 512 ram, GF4 .... and all the other crap.

the only thing i've changed was the psu for the new silentX model which is far far quieter then the stock one.

a quick question, whats a decent vid card cooler i can use on my GF4 that will fit in the confines of the XPC, cause its now the loudest component, and annoying me!

Very effective setup cooling wise there eva2000, my idle temps are higher than your load ones.

daffy: yeah i know about the whining noise, that's one reason why I changed the PSU for such an outrageous price tag; but also it deals with heat better, coz the internal ventilation structure is different - a stock 220W PSU has the intake fan on the bottom and the exhaust fan on the top (or vice versa if i'm wrong), hence it's giving me the impression it's working thru the cables, or simply put - getting freakin' hot inside - but the SilentX has both "ex" and "in" on top with no blockaid, plus, heat rises, so it makes sense. Another reason is simply that it gives me the extra 30W power for stability, even tho the 220W is excellent in that regard. PCI exhaust blowers won't fit, many have told me that, but I "wish" somebody would tell me otherwise.

Krinos: Seems like you've put quite alot of money there to make things RIGHT. But it's good to have things working fine the way you want. I'm glad for you dude. Sunon's are freakin' loud! Yeah, I know about that mod, there was another similar one I read of b4, but I've heard a mix result and PLUS, it doesnt look so neat anymore.

dke: I have a GF4 Ti4600 in my other LOUD Athlon 2100XP. I moved it outside. To cool a GF4 is attainable, but to quieten it down is another, smaller fans tend to be louder coz they spin faster to get the job done. I forgot which company made an aftermarket heatsink and fan module for it, it looks pretty good. But not sure about the noise levels. It was one of either Coolermaster or Thermaltake "I THINK".

eva2000: In this picture the distance between your fan and PCI slot looks MUCH CLOSER than the space between the PCI slot and the fan that I have in the SB65G2. May I ask if it was true that the "Just Cooler" fans didnt fit "WIDTH" wise? If not, what was it? LENGTH???

Finally, a general word, SilentX is a MUST. I am getting my rounded cables tomorrow to see if it improves the airflow and free up some space in the godd*mn thing! The mesh casing definately lets my 9800XT breathe much better, which on the other side lets my PSU breathe better too. I would have to say that one major part that heats up my case so badly is my freakin' 9800XT, my WD Raptor and the other usual stuff. But the 9800XT is freakin' hot! I shall get back to you guys on what happens later.

it's width wise that the pci slot coolers don't fit IIRC or it could be IIRC that the pci bracket on the slot cooler is a bit too long or wide to fit nicely into the bottom part of the SB61G2.. can't remember which heh

SilentX psu nice huh.. hmmmm

I've been looking for some genuine user feedback on the Silent X, maybe it's worth the asking $$ to get rid of that pesky 'whine'.
Thanks mikemike

Another ?? for Shuttle folk, mine undervolts on the CPU vcore really badly, 1.49vcore under load ( i'm using the max BIOS setting of 1.58)and i think this limits my overclcock as it's not even the standard vcore at that level. I wonder if the Silent X would also help here, currently 3420 Mhz is my best speed without errors or crashing.
How do others go with vcore under load?
