In my case I don't think it was the fan wire, more like a faulty fan motor or bearing as the fan still works, just noisily. A small drop of oil on the bearing fixed the problem but only temporary so I think it was just a fault in the manufacturing.

Yeah, ive done more research on about 5 different NF7-S v2.0 boards, and come to the findings that there are 2 different problems with the NB fan.

1. The wires underneath the fan seem on installation in manufacture, don't sit in the gap where they are meant to. This causes the fanblades to hit the wires.

2. The top shiny metal cover on the NB fan has a slight amount of movement in the screw holes drilled for it. this sometimes allows the top casing to move slightly off centre and also come into contact with the fanblades.

To Remedy this problem, there are 2 easy methods to fixing this. unscrew the 2 little screws on the NB and let the fan come out from around its casing. Then refit it, making sure that the wires are in the correct alignment, and the top cover sits centred on the top.
The better alternative is to purchase a new Northbridge heatsink, and replace the current one.

I personally reccomend either the blue or Gold versions of Zalmans Northbridge coolers, which are passive, and can be purchased from PC Case Gear

First thing I did when I opened my mobo box was pull that POS off. Have a look at the thermal contact patch, this also includes a little smudge I accidently made. (at the 7 o'clock position)

I lack of spinning fan would be the least of your problems.

Same thing here.

I've had 2xNF7-S 2.0 and a NF7 2.0, all of which had about that amount of thermal compound. There's probably not much reason to keep the stock HSF on if you were not intending to upgrade it.

I though I was just unlucky and got this problem! But guess it looks like I am actually abit lucky since it has been running 24/7 for like 5 months my NF7 and this has only started happening now...

What do you guys think about this? http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod1350.htm
I could also use the south bridge heatsinks since the NF7s don't come with one and I almost burn my finger off each time I go to touch mine...it is also pretty cheap!

I use this, (older larger orange version)
http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod262.htm
and this
http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod669.htm
for my north cooling.

Never had a problem and the large, quiet fan also blows over the vid card providing mem cooling.
