Hmmm, not sure on that one. Not that I'm a huge fan of the GST, but prior to the GST, there would've been a 22% sales tax markup on the whole-sale price, as opposed to a 10% markup on the retail price. The GST is actually causing many of these things to cost less than they used to.

Where the GST impacts is on the myriad of everyday items which previously did not use to attract sales tax.

Yea, the food... The food wasnt cheap in Aus before, now it's even worse, when i went back to Aus in easter, i really was hesitant on buying the cooked food... Ended up cooking for myself most of the time.

if you were to get them from europe, then voltage wouldn't be a problem (we all have 230V/50hz too) ....... though you may well need to change the plug i guess - don't know what aussie mains plugs are like...

Same as NZ and Fiji (Same as the states, too - except that common and hot are tilted about 30 degrees - easy to make a "pliers mod" with dual voltage devices...)
I'm pretty sure the plug will get cut off anyway, either so the wire fits through a hole/grommet or to attach to a relay.
It's surprising to me that NZers get a better deal on pumps. More fishkeepers there? Good on them!

that doesn't tell me much.....
uk standard plug

you're probably right about it being removed anyway though i guess......

german retail prices from
http://www.aquacomputer.de/
1250 62.90 euro (107AUD)
1048 39.90 euro (68AUD)
including 16% VAT but not shipping...
UK retail prices from
http://store.over-clock.com/Pumps___Accessories.html
1048 £35.83 inc 17.5% VAT but not shipping (91.5AUD)
http://www.extremecooling.co.uk/web/...ry?category=31
1250 £44.65 inc 17.5% VAT, UK shipping free.... (114AUD)

so germany seems the best source i suspect (not surprising for german pumps i guess...) - any retailer shipping to Oz should be able to do so free of VAT, which'd offset some of the shipping.....

don't know what kind of weight these pumps are so i can't guess what shipping would be... 2kg as an airmail small packet from the UK would be £18.52 using Royal Mail...£8.62 surface if you don't mind waiting...

You can buy UK plug to Oz plug adaptors for about $5 AUD from various places. They're a pretty basic thing.

I have numerous appliances here as a result from my living in the USA. While in the USA we made sure to buy appliances that would work in 230VAC/50Hz power as well as the US standard 110VAC/60Hz.

That way when we came back to Australia, all we had to do was buy a bunch of power-plug adaptors and we were happy.

Here's a picture. There can also be a third "ground" pin.

No. Almost all appliances except low-power electronics have an earth pin in Australia. I think the picture there was showing a US to Australia adaptor. US appliances don't have the earth pin, so there's no need for the adaptor to incorporate it.

i see... UK sockets don't work without the earth pin so that's what mislead me...

found this link to various countries plugs if you want to guess what you might recieve if you import....
